The Big Bad Of The West

Description
Decided to take my AGM shot at a team that is quickly becoming my favourite in the West. Though I am familiar with the Avs, I would not say I am a seasoned vet when it comes to this group as a whole.

The deals I made I thought were fair for all clubs involved, and I thought ultimate both Nylander and Dickerson makes this team better then the sum of the parts leaving (in the case of Newhook, he may very well stay in the NCAA for another 2-3 years).

I tried to round out this team with a little added grit and toughness and I thought that Byram and Gudas could excel as defensive partners, similar to how Cole and Makar did for some/much of this past year.

Anyway, as always, let me know your thoughts. Stay safe.

The Avs are so flush with quality prospects and have player openings that seem like perfect fits for certain UFAs, there was only so much room/space to go around. I think Gudas is a much better fit over Zadorov, for example.

Nylander is a good player, but newhook has only increased in his value since he was drafted and with a 3 year ELC coming eventually when the avs will be in cap crunch it's the kind of thing that turns contenders into favorites..

Also imo zadorov and graves separately are better than gudas

Nichushkin played great for the avs this year and will absolutely be welcomed back on the 3rd/4th line, and the avs also have bowers and kaut ready for promotions to the nhl which would block the Dickinson trade and Clifford and mckegg signings

In all honestly the avs have to do very little in the offseason.

Pass on the Toronto trade. Sure, Nylander is good. But I wouldn't trade Newhook to acquire him. Newhook develops good and hic ELC + top 6 potential will be valuable for the Avs, even if he stays 2-3 more years in the NCAA. With all the cap uncertainties, those ELC guys has even more value (considering a lot of contending teams are up against the cap)

Why not trade them instead of letting them walk for nothing? ....

I like the Dallas trade. I think that for future seasons, Nill will have to chose between Dickinson and Faksa for the same work load.

Just wonder if both GM wants to trade in the same division.

Curious on what is the problem with Jost? He was clearly a top prospect at the draft.

Keep Nichu. Pass on Cliffy. Nichu-Dickie-Donskoi would be a fire third line. Getting Nylander would start with Timmins. Leafs aren’t gonna send you one of their best forwards for whichever lefty you deem expendable. They have needs too. Gudas makes no sense with Timmins in the system. Graves>Cole long term. Don’t rush Byram. Cole gives him one more year. I honestly think Rado is gonna just keep getting better if they manage their cap space and develop their prospects

Yeah I would too if I were a Dallas fan. This is really bad for Colorado.

There is no problem with Jost except that the fan base is not being patient enough. He's a solid bottom six player that still has top six upside (most likely he settles into a third line role, imo). I wouldn't trade him for Dickinson straight up, let alone throw in a good pick.

A couple of things, COL is under no circumstances looking to add a bottom 6 guy with Nichushkin, Compher, Jost, PEB, Calvert, Donskoi, Kaut and Bowers to fill the role not to mention other prospects like Ranta, Mutula, Kovalenko and Burzan lurking.

Also the Avs are looking to clear a dman for Byram this year and another the following year for Timmins not add a 3rd liner.

Another thing to remember Newhook and Byram arent just the Avs top prospects they are 2 of the best prospects in the NHL, and while I love Nylander I’m not trading a guy I think is a 70pt center for him.
