STL trade makes sense for both teams. Cap isn't moving and STL has approx. 2M in cap space. Dunn can get them more but we're taking Allen off their hands to free up $$$ so they can sign Pietreangelo.
Pietreangelo will get at least 2M raise alone which doesn't give them any more room for Dunn. One way or another they're going to loose him with an OS or trade. Adding Allen gives them 4.35M in cap relief. Then adding Mete (resign approx. 1.5M/year) and Lindgren (750K), still leaves them with approx. 2M in cap space.

Based on the comments, I've reverted the PHI and OTT trade as I agree Chiarot and Kullak area better 3rd/4th LD option than Gotsibehere and Oulette.
DET trade for while getting a lot of comments is quite simple.
DET has the WORST D in the league and they need some stability on their back end until they're younger prospects are ready to make the jump. While Alzner may have been bad in MTL / Laval, he can provide them some stability and play top 4 D pairing minutes in Detroit for a couple of years until their young prospects step up. Having salary retained and giving up a 3rd rounder isn't such a tough pill to swallow for Detroit.

Funny how this pandemic-forced pause changed the plans for some teams because of mainly 2 things: cap staying put and the draft being, well, uncertain to say the least.

Take Alzner for example: if cap went up $4-5 M, he could have been a viable option as a veteran #6-7D on a bottom-feeding team. Because he basically could have come with a real cheap salary (Habs could've retained) but a $3M+ cap hit for the next 2 years. But now, he's untradable, even if Habs retained salary.

And as far as the draft goes, who knows if teams like Ott and Mtl will be able to leverage all those picks and turn them into assets or if teams will be reluctant to trade players they know for rookies that they may not be able to develop until 2021-2022...

Ya know, your reasoning isn’t all that bad. Now that I think about it, MTL has a seven lack of leadership in the locker room, how about y’all trade us a 2nd for Abdelkader. He’s a real good locker room guy

hard to read sarcasm online - but if you're serious you're out of your mind.
One thing Bergevin always looks for is locker room leadership and he surrounds this team with it.
If there's one thing this team lacks is leadership.
Weber - considered one of the best captains in the league and alternate captain multiple times for Team Canada.
Price - one of the best locker room guys in the league and the only reason he's not wearing the C is because of the NHL Luongo clause. frown
Gally and Byron - alternate captains - hardest working guys in the NHL today.
Petry, Danault, Weise - lead by example of what it takes to succeed in the NHL
Poehling, Evans, Juulsen, Suzuki - upcoming prospects/youngsters that have either captained (A or C) in the minors or for their national junior teams.

You're overvaluing Dunn. He is good but nowhere close to worth a top 10 pick, Drysdale and Sanderson will be better then him. Dunn is a serviceable top 4 dman but he isnt a top pairing guy or elite.

Dunn’s been in like the 95th percentile for Xwar the past two years, he’s legit

While I'm not high on Marc Bergevin, one thing I do give him credit for is getting the MOST value for low profile trades.
High profile trades - I don't trust him too much.
But I believe he'll be able to do something with Alzner this offseason - and it won't be buying him out.
Like I commented to another before....you can swap DET with OTT or VGS as they're the worst D's in the league.

Habs did well in Domi trade
