Description

The Leafs cap situation is awful, but I think they make it work. They go with a 20 man roster instead of 23, and they manage to get their 4 biggest RFAs signed to prove yourself contracts, including Travis Dermott who I feel hasn’t quite taken off yet. All UFAs are gone unfortunately.

They can, they are just hard. We already saw the Leafs be comfortable with running a 21 man roster this season.

The Hurricanes used to always go with 20 men and would just call someone up when necessary. It does happen but usually it doesn’t. For 2020-21 and 2021-22 though I foresee it happening with a few teams due to the flat cap.

Certainly wasn't comfortable. Player get sick, slightly injured you don't get cap relief. Sure, have a big cap player like Reilly or Muzzin on LTIR then you have cap room.

While that is true, the NHL takes strides to make sure teams can still play. If you ever have to play a game without a full roster (see 19 skaters or less), you can use emergency call ups who wont count against the cap until you can field 20 healthy skaters.

They dont but not using them isnt the same as cant use them like you originally stated.
