Hmm interesting.

Ranking drafted prospects (after the few superstar studs that are obvious) on whose "better" always is just a shot in the dark anyway. A good chunk of these guys (and others not mentioned) are so close together in skill and statistics that the only defining thing that separates them is personal preference. That's basically all Wheeler's doing here. Separating really good prospects by who he likes better.

I prefer the prospect pyramid when ti comes to ranking prospects. Who cares whose 8-15th for example. They're all Tier "X". That's what's important. Ranking players in arbitrary #'s is completely pointless and many times is completely subjective in nature IMO.

yup exactly, and I think the tier groupings are fair, and this is all based on an arbitration stoppage in all these guys seasons bc of the pandemic. If a full season, playoffs, and international tournaments were still going on in the spring, these rankings will be drastically different .

No different than the draft prospects going into this years draft....there really is no late season riser up the rankings bc of their playoffs or showing at tournaments

He has a goalie 3 tier ranking of top 10
1 Sorokin
2 Knight

3 Ingram
4 Wolf
5 Primeau
6 Oettinger
7 Annunen

9 Lukkonen
9 Swayman
10 Hofer

His write up

"Would I have taken Seider sixth overall a year ago? No. Would I take him sixth overall in a re-draft today? No. But was he closer to that range than where I had him (late 20s, early 30s) ahead of the draft? Yes — and Seider proved that throughout this season with his impressive play as a teenager in the AHL and an all-star worthy performance at the world juniors. I still want him to impose himself offensively more than he does, and look shoot more than he does, and just flat out attack a little more. But he can shed some of the caution with age and experience and the rest is clearly there. He’s big, he’s strong, he uses both of those things intelligently, he’s mobile for his size, he’s got all situations upside, and he’s going to have a better ability to play tougher minutes at the NHL level than arguably any other defenseman on this list. That matters, even if his game with the puck or from the offensive zone blue line in is a little duller than his peers near the top here (which isn’t to say it’s not still an asset because it’s definitely getting there)."

offensively he hasnt done enough for Wheeler to move him up any higher from where he had him originally in the 20s

With the write up it makes sense. Everyone has a bias towards certain players (eg Pronman with offensive skill). Seider’s shot could get better but overall I’ve been pretty impressed with his 2 way physical play. It’s really hard to find a stylistic comp outside of maybe Parayko.

No like just look at the comments on the atheltics facebook ads. I click it expecting an article, then i get a screen that says "hey pay us money"
The comments all are like "not worth it" "crappy list" "dumb article we already knew that"

probably because their lists also come with well reasoned decisions that usually aren't copied and pasted, and dummies complain that Bleeblee Bloobloo wasn't ranking high enough.

Offense sells....contracts, hype, etc. put up points you’re a stud, and if he’s back in the ahl having a monster offensive season he will jump up the list. Safe assumption is if a guy isn’t scoring in the ahl probably won’t improve in the nhl against increased talent

I’m not saying Seider isn’t offensive. What I’m saying his he is labeled as a physical 2 way defense and doesn’t have the flash a guy like Makar or Hughes has racing around the offensive zone. If I’m betting on a guy to eat 22-25 minutes and chip in a little I’m liking guys like Seider, Dobson, etc. over guys like Hughes. Everyone has their preference is what I’m getting at and I know Pronman’s (didn’t follow Wheeler too much) thinking a bit based on prior rankings. It’s similar to how some guys will jump or fall in rankings based on tournaments (typically internet scouts only get to view those as many aren’t traveling to the KHL, SHL, Liiga, etc). I also understand rankings are like butt holes (everyone has one).

I’m saying that’s the knock against him Right now, and if that’s a legit concern then chances are it won’t improve in the nhl so there will always be the drag on him as a player, good at all this but wished he did this.

Dman who are game breakers and can still play respectable D will just carry more value to solid defensive physical dman who only Bring some offense
