Gustafsson 5,2M x 5Y? Huh?

Better to sign then Edmundson or Ben Hutton, they are better in defense and will be cheaper.

Gus and Risto on the same defensive pairing. They'll each be a -50 at seasons end

I like the roster build. I would want a Cozens at 3c as opposed to 1RW. Hopefully by the end of the year he is playing 2C, much along the lines of what happened with Dach this year in Chicago.

Why do you assume Dubas is high on Montour? Also, the ranking that you are referencing on Cozens is from one guy who works for The Athletic, not The Athletic itself.

Agree hope by season end he's at 2C but I can see them starting him on the wing. Stamkos started on the wing, as did MacKinnon.

Dubas wanted Montour before the Sabres traded for him. Well known.

Imagine Cozens learning his first year at 1RW beside Eichel. I think they have to put him there. Put 23 and 68 on the second line with a weaker 2C. Skinner needs to be back with Eichel too to make that contract up.

Source on that? Everything I ever saw on that was pure speculation. Besides the fact that even if it were true, that was two years ago... things change.

I think it's a fair trade for both sides. They need capable D on the right side. Montour has lots of up side

Change it to Johnsson and you have a deal. He'd be great with Eichel

It's the Atheltics propsect rankings dude. They give that guy the go ahead to do it for them. That's like saying Toronto didn't trade Kadri, some guy who worked for Toronto did.

And it’s not funny from Gustafsson? That you give such a contract to a guy who doesn’t know how to play defense and paired him with Risto, it will be even funnier than Ben Hutton.

That's the issue. Leafs need Kerfoot unless they're getting an upgrade at RHD or they're dealing him for a cheaper 3C.

Kapanen is worth more, Johnsson is fair value but not a good fit

Fair or not fair is a discussion in itself; I think the value is somewhat close. But this just creates a new hole for the Leafs at 3C and increases their cap hit (assuming the Sabres AGM's that I see are correct in Montour signing between 4-4.5).

I prefer Skinner away from Eichel. Skinner is never going to produce to a level that warrants his contract. He is a 6-7 AAV player who had all the leverage on the Sabres and used it. I think we should be able to get high end production out of lesser players with Eichel and Skinner can help provide scoring depth. Now obviously you can give Skinner an extra shift here and there with Jack when the game dictates o-zone starts down by a goal or tied, but I would much rather spread my offensive production out and hopefully that will free Jack up even more as teams won't be able to just key on 1 line

For those of us without an Athletic subscription, would you be so kind as to share what they said about Cozens and why they put him #1? @deviner92

The article with the ranking also pointing out that cozens had the lowest ceiling out of all the top prospects, but feel he is a safe bet to at least become a 3rd line center.

Also he is not ranked 1st anywhere else. He is gonna be another girgensons for us.
