A long term waste of 9.5m. Rather have Johnsson and Kerfoot and additional cap than Hall

If Leafs are ever trading Nylander to Florida, its for Ekblad.

Nope.

Hard pass on this one.

If one of 88 or 16 are ever traded there has to be a top pairing RHD coming back.

This package just isn't good enough.

Forget Hall. No interest there at all.

Nylander is not traded unless Ekblad is going the other way.

Then he remains with TO. Ekblad does not get traded with Nylander being the main piece going to Florida.

If both sides ever exchange players its gonna be like Rielly for Ekblad. Nylander is pretty much not getting traded unless its massive overpayment because his contract is so good.

I mean his contract is fair. He is at 7 and he is a 60 point good offensive player that struggles defensively. That is not a great value contract it is right where he should be. Especially considering the contract only bought 1 season of UFA and there are only 4 years of team control left.

Struggles defensively and 60 point player are two very wrong statements.

He is a career 59 point per 82 player. His defensive point share averages around 1.1 not good. PDO 100.6 for his career and under 100 3 of his 5 seasons, possession quality numbers are among the lowest on TO top 6

Preds pass on Johnsson.

At this price, yes. But I think a deal could be made if the Preds miss out on adding a top 6 UFA. Ultimately, I think it is in the Preds best interest to look for top 6 help other than another middle 6 forward.

I would not trade Nylander for that. I don't know why we see a lot of Nylander trades and mostly for laughable returns.

I don't think they do, they have no left shot F , Johnsson fits in their F group and his contract fits their cap structure

I agree that Johnsson could be acceptable as a last resort addition, if NSH strikes out in free agency this summer. But if it came to that, you'd have to consider it a failure on Poile's part. He's not an ideal player for the top 6, and there isn't room for him in the bottom 6. His salary isn't exorbitant, but $3.4M for a guy who'd optimally be on the 3rd line is unwise, considering NSH's cap situation and roster. He's a luxury the Preds don't need.

Outside of Hall, Dadonov, Hoffman who else is there really worth throwing money at? Or at least compared to what Johnsson does at 3.4?

I can't find any info on his most common linemates, but I'm guessing some combination of Tavares, Nylander, Marner, Matthews? NSH doesn't have the wealth of offensive players TOR has. That's why available cap space should be prioritized for getting players of that ilk, not Johnsson types.

That list is a good start. Smith and/or Granlund could be inclined to re-sign for reasonable money and term as well.

It was with Matthews/Kapanen

I'm sure he'd be fine with Johansen on a 2nd line role

I'm just not convinced a guy who's hit 20 goals once with superior linemates in a better offensive system, who's coming off a significant injury is NSH's best option.
