Keeping 8OA

Created by: melloni17
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2020
Published: Jul. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hoffman may be limited to places to sign with the flat cap situation. Otherwise he probably does not sign in BUF.
I feel that Krueger wants Risto still. This will be his last season I presume, barring a spectacular season of course.

I like the moves. I don't think Buffalo should be adding anything in the Calgary deal. Hanafin is an average 2nd pair defenseman. By no means is he elite where he should warrant a massive return

I kind of thought that it was a pretty fair deal with no picks exchanged but I know how people are on here. Lol

3 problems with the Minnesota trade.
1 Staal will not waive especially for Buffalo
2 Wild won't trade Staal as they have no replacement.
3 offer your 2nd this year and it a maybe.

It highly depends on Montours next contract. Flames are taking on a lot of unneeded cap here if he cost more than Hanifin. Also Noah is 3 years younger and MoJo is a pending UFA. I probably wouldnt do the 2 for 2 from Flames perspective

That is what I was going to say - If Buffalo can extend Montour for under $5M like Hanifin then it could make sense on a 1 for 1 but we ain't taking on $2M additional cap in a Bennett for Johansson swap

So Hanifin for Montour one for one?
That is actually pretty close.
I am not sure what needs to be added to square that deal.
It balances our LHD with RHD.
At this point I think Bennett has more potential but Johansson is the better of the two right now. So I do not know if I like that part of the deal.
EDIT:
Let me add, if Buffalo could sign Hoffman and swap Montour for Hanifin, the Sabres would be much better than this years team.
I also like not trading away the 8OA pick.
Buffalo finally has some actual NHL prospects, I like the idea that you are not trading any futures away.
Lastly, last year's team would have been in the preliminaries if Hutton did not go blind, or Skinner does not implode, or if the PK did not self destruct, or if Rodrigues and Sheary had career bad years, or the PP just disappear, or if Krueger knew how to put together an NHL line up.
So last year's team was close, if not for many unforeseen disasters.

If you want to sign him for 8 years he should be around the same cap as Hanafin. Anything shorter and he should be less. 4 x 4 could work pretty well

I think pretty close maybe Buffalo adds a b prospect. Weisbach or Fitzgerald

Give Montour 5mil for 4 years and trade him 1 for 1 for Hanifin

My other question would be, what would a Ristolainen for Hanifin trade entail?

IMO Montour shouldn't get more than $4.5 AAV and I'm not ok trading Hanifin 1 for 1 for Montour.

Hanifin is bigger, faster and despite being 3 years younger, has a lot more experience and room to grow.

What would you want from Buffalo to make the Montour for Hanifin trade?
Their skill levels are actually very close.
Hanifin has been playing on playoff teams while Montour has been playing on bottom feeding teams.
If one takes that into consideration, I think one for for is actually very fair.

if you find Skinner frustrating get ready to see Hoffman and Skinner level frustration. will score 60 goals between them but allow 80+ goals because they refuse to hustle on defense.

Hanifin for Montour + Thompson would interest me.

Let's agree to disagree then.
I get to watch Thompson and he will be at least a mid 6 forward if not top 6 next year.
If you go to evolving Hockey and compare Hanifin with Montour they are very close.
EH skews the data toward players on better teams.
