            Yep that’s a nice 1st line there.

Re-drafts can be painful for sure.

Every team in the league was going to take Bennett at 4th, can't really complain about that one. Flames poorly developed Bennett.

McDonald over Demko was a bad pick at the time, even worse now.

The Hunter Smith pick was really bad too, they could have had Montour or Dvorak and instead went for the big man, that had 1pt the season prior. That was a bad pick at the time too.

There was an article around the 2014 draft in the Calgary Herald about Point, he said the Flames never even interviewed him...

This was definitely a Burke draft. From 2015 to present day, once Treliving was able to get his feet under him as a GM the Flames have drafted well

            Agreed on all points here.

Demko/McDonald makes no sense ever at any point in time. The only thing I can possibly use to explain it is maybe Demko told them in interviews that he had no interest in ever going to Calgary. Otherwise it's a total head scratcher. As is the Point thing except that Burke was still the man so to speak, and he loves the big boys. Point is a Calgary kid, he should have never slipped through the Flames fingers.

It’s unfortunate because the 2013 and 2014 drafts were the two biggest drafts of the rebuild and they essentially whiffed on both.

Monahan was a great pick and the right pick. But after that they struck out on all of them.

2014 as you illustrated in this post was even worse. They got a bottom 6 player in a year they picked 4th overall.

The saving grace is the Flames were able to acquire Lindholm and Hanifin. It cost assets but it gives them some young players so those drafts don’t hurt as bad.

            I feel your pain.

Buffalo drafted reinhart (who i love) over draisaitl in the 1st, drafted brendan lemieux, eric cornel and vaclav karabacek in the 2nd, jonas johansson in the 3rd, max willman in the 5th, christopher brown in the 6th and lucked into victor olofsson in the 7th.

cornel, karabacek, willman, brown total of zero nhl games, johansson, a handful, lemieux refused to sign

I'm sure he's a good guy! It was just a classic Burke pick lol, he was some how able to steal a 2nd from COL for Reto Berra, then he wasted it. Truculence and pugnacity.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter, Dvorak or Montour wouldn't have won the Flames a cup

yeah lol we always joke with him that he got drafted over guys like Point tears of joy
the NHL draft can be so unpredictable. The majority of players drafted are 18/19 years old and players hit peaks/ plateaus at different stages in their career development.

Yeah, it's tough to project. I know Ty Rattie, he's one of the best players to ever play minor hockey in Alberta as well as the WHL, he's the leading playoff scorer. He was just never able to translate it in the NHL. Part of that was Hitchcock preferred Jaskin over him too.
