A trade like this could have legs if...

Sabres don’t mind 2 mid 6 LW’s.
Canucks move on from either or both of Tanev & Stecher. Miller isn’t top 2 D but JB goes this route & willing to suffer a bit short term on D then so be it.

At this point in time JB has other more pressing cap issues next season & beyond. Hard to say what domino falls 1st but something surely has to give.

Fair, eh. Sabres dont really need Pearson though. Reduced minures is going to lead to lower production from him as well. Baertschi does crack the Sabres roster. This is more of a cap dump for Vancouver in the hopes Pearson keeps momentum and maybe plays with Cozens on the 3rd line

Pearson would be a nice pickup for the Sabres.

no? Buffalo trades a cheap top 4 defenseman with term for an expiring left winger which they don't need and trade one of our better prospects AND take back Baertschi's contract?

If he played center maybe, but Sabres have a lot of LW

Bärtschi would still play on a good number of NHL rosters. He is not bad, just had a bit of bad luck with concussions

I don't think the trade makes sense, but I think Baertschi could still be part of a hockey trade. I mean teams in teams like New Jersey or Detroit he would still be a mid 6 winger

Horvat finally has a winger and has great chemistry with and you want to trade him for dman who is a consistent healthy scratch and needs to play a sheltered role?

Anytime buffalo acquires depth scoring the players suck... Sheary/Vesey etc. So from the sabres side i guess so but it will be another trade that will blow up in our face.

Pearson for Miller straight up is probably fair value wise but does not fill a need for the Sabres so.they pass

He could be, in Buffalo he wont be though. Detroit and Ottawa may be his only shot

That is a lie on both accounts. Those are myths people on capfriendly repeat because they think it makes them sound knowledgeable and informed, so you can pretend youre a stat guy that follows every team, when in actuality it couldnt be further from the truth. Miller was a healthy scratch early on when they had 8 dmen and they were playing Bogosian to shop him. Miller still ended up playing 51 games or about 74% of the season and had top 4 minutes. He was constantly shuffled around and was not used on the PP as much as in Vegas. He'll be fine moving forward and is one of the least likely players that Buffalo will move

Gerard Gallant played Miller in a sheltered role due to his poor defensive play, offensively he can contribute but defensively his game needs work. The Canucks need a defenseman that help keep the puck out of the net.
