So, I don't hate this idea. But there are some problems.

1. Reinhart isn't signed and the Leafs would have to know his cost before this deal. If he asks for 8 million this doesn't really get them where they need to be.
2. Trading Marner in division would suck.
3. That first probably should be this year. 8th overall is great but Marner is elite.

If the contract is within their range and that first moves up to this year I think #2 becomes tolerable and I'd do this deal from both sides. Certainly worth discussion.

“almost” reinhart and a 1st might get you nylander. probably not. and adding jokiharju doesn’t get you marner.

so i dont see original msg saying reinhart is almost nylander so I assume it was deleted, but...

Nylander has better Points Per Game, better expected goals for, expected goals against, has better takeaway vs giveaway numbers, and is already locked up for the future where reinhart is a pending RFA

back to as good as his rookie season would be a step backwards, statistically he was on pace for his best season this year, he was on pace for 37 goals and 71 pts
