The career of Mike Richards

Team: 2019-20 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2020
Published: Jul. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Drafted 24th overall in the 2003 NHL draft, Mike was a very good player for a very long time before he fell off a cliff in the 2010s.

He made his NHL debut in the 05-06 season, scoring 11 goals and 34 pts.

It wasn't until the 07-08 season that he exploded offensively, scoring 28 goals and 75 pts.

After putting up back to back 60 pts seasons in 09-10 and 10-12, Philly decided to move him to LA in a pretty big trade (details are below).

PHI got a bunch of younger players while LA got a player who could help them win the cup, and he did that in 2012 and 2014 (still haven't watched that Martinez goal without feeling something in my stomach, I still believe to this day that that LA team was overrated but that's for another day.

In the 13-14 season, he only scored 11 goals and 41 pts. Now, he did play in an all out defensive system but still. He probably hoped he could bounce back in the 14-15 season but he only put up 16 pts, including just 5 goals.

The 15-16 season was his very last in the league, putting up just 2 goals and 5 pts with the Caps.

His career ended with 181 goals and 487 pts in 749 games, pretty good numbers still.

Yeah... it's sad you know, they've been chasing a cup for a whole decade (a bit more even) and they've never won it. They should move Burns and Kane while they have value and hope Jones bounces back.

I don't find it sad at all. Marleau and Thornton don't deserve a Cup nor do any players who can't elaveate there teams in the playoffs.

Some of my good friends are Sharks fans, however you might be surprised to hear that most sharks fans are about as dumb as Leafs fans.

As I recall, there was an opportunity for a "compliance buyout" after the 2014 season and most of us expected the Kings to use it on Richards. Not doing so was the first of Dean Lombardi's three big mistakes that cost him his job (Lucic and Sekera were the other two).

No prob bud. I'll have a new series after that... don't know exactly the format, but it'll probably be trade trees. I'm not going to do 31 posts because I want that series to be done before Aug 1st but I'll try to o 5-10 of those...

      Sounds pretty cool
