Trading Murray But Still Contenders

Created by: Bbpagewolf
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2020
Published: Jul. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Penguins trade Matt Murray to the Wild as they don’t have the cap to sign him whereas the Wild do. They get a nice prospect D, a solid fringe starter, and their own 2020 1st back which works for both sides. They also acquire Josh Anderson for some added grit and sign Dylan DeMelo in FA to replace Justin Schultz. The Penguins should still be competitive next season, but the clock is ticking.

No thanks. Other than the Penguins cup runs, Murray has been pretty unspectacular. We have Kahkonen in the AHL who looks like our future starter and Jones in the system has looked very promising. I'd rather we have the pick and roll the dice in the draft on a center.

Makes no sense to trade a goalie because we have too many and get one back in the deal

Smart money is Matt Murray being traded to Edmonton. What could Pittsburgh get back? Probably a couple nice pieces.

A 2nd is the absolut minimum for Anderson and that’s in an offersheet. Columbus would also let him walk as a UFA before willingly trading Anderson to Pittsburgh. Also theres no chance Anderson signs that. You’d be lucky for him to sign that for 1 year let alone 2.

How can they pay for Murray, AA, Bear, + with $10m in cap space?

Matt Murray looks more like Cam Ward than the Hall of Famer he was projected to be after 2017

Probably a bad year for Murray to have a meh season. Flat cap. About 12 UFA goalies at least as good a year, most much better, that can be had for less money and no assets lost. Plus Koskinen is signed for 2 more years...

At least half of the GMs in the league, if not more, are going to have to get creative in order to gets needs filled this offseason with a flat cap. Ken Holland is one of the best in the business. I have no doubt that he will address his goalie position in some sort of meaningful way.

This is spot on. Its not just the number of UFAs (lots of supply), but also there are a lot of teams still working on their last year of the previous vet (NSH NYR BOS CAR TOR etc... Low demand) arbitration will be interesting.

For an encore, we'll take Teddy Blueger for future considerations.

Seriously, come on. Did you really think that ludicrous excuse for an Andy offer was going to fly? Really?

He needs a good backup or 1B though, not a starter.

The 6th best starter in the league this year:
