So let's be honest here: Based on what Nico has shown us so far, 7.25 mil is a slight overpayment. I'd agree to that. Maybe something like 5 - 6.5 mil would be more accurate at the moment. But what the Devils are doing here is bet on his potential. And they have every right to do so since he's shown multiple times that there's a ton of development left in him.

By the time the Devils will have surrounded him with a team that's able to make the postseason I have no doubt he'll play a big part in it and the numbers will underscore that. He's also very likely to be our next captain.

I don't know if or how many Devils games you've watched over the last couple of years but I can tell you that there're multiple reasons why we're absolutely happy to have him on our team and why we're more than happy to have signed him longterm.
