Low risk option I dont see why not. Not the most important need but brings in a young guy to fit into the room and eat some minutes on the fourth line

He's actually played quite a bit on the #1 line during the 2018/2019 season with Toews/Kane. NOT suggesting he'll replace Brady...just bringing up an example of him doing his job protecting talent like Kane. That's all.

Are any of Lehner, Holtby or Markstrom signing for $4M?

I think he has concussion history, so it's a risk.

IDK...i said in the description that not much thought was put into the lines. It's a VERY tough goalie market this off season. Not a lot of teams looking for goalies and a ton of them out there. If any of them wanted big money, they're better off waiting 1 year. I do think CHI is the best place for a tandem system though. If any of them did take a discount I do believe it would be with CHI.

Probably not unless not many teams go after goalies. VAN will retain Markstrom so that leaves Lehner and Holtby as the only two respectable starting UFA goalies. Will get more than 4 mill

If Lehner takes a discount it will be with Ottawa sadly. He has said he wouldn't mind going back there since it is where he started his career

Entirely possible. Lehner DID take a 1 year $5M contract last year though... So there is precedent. It is a pretty terrible goalie market out there though...for the goalies. I don't see OTT giving him big money like another team might next year when other big money goalies are up like Pekka Rinne/Hank/Freddy/CARs tandem/Tukka/COL/BUF/MIN etc... It wouldn't be a bad move at all to wait 1 year....from the players perspective.

No but maybe just a 1 year deal for 5-6 mill. Probably won't get alot more than that anywhere else and is guarnteed the 1G spot and alot of games to prove himself. Can be traded at deadline or if another teams goalie gets hurt.

Great convo! Where else would he be guaranteed a #1 spot? OTT. Yeah ok agreed, but most teams have to rework their goalie situation (possible, but also easier said that done this particular off season) BUF could, but it would probably also be a tandem role with Hutton. DET could afford him, but again a tandem role with Berny.

So maybe that's one goalie down, but my placeholder is set for the 1 guy that didn't find a home.

If Shaw is healthy, I'd consider this. Caggiula is a grinder, which is something I don't think the Hawks have a ton of. He is injury-prone, but when healthy, he's indispensable to the Hawks success imo. I'd rather roll the dice with him being healthy than roll the dice with moving up a couple dozen spots in the draft. But if Shaw is back and good to go, he could fill that role. So idk

Only other spots I can think of are:
VAN if they lose Markstromm
EDM if they can clear cap
BUF
CGY?
DET
COL

COL with Grubauer and Francouz I don't see them spending money on a 3rd goalie. CGY would be a tandem, but they're also VERY tight against the cap. Same with EDM. CHI's in a better cap situation than either of CGY or EDM and CHI is not in a great place.

Ya it just goes to show that of the three big UFA goalies theres only going to be 4-5 teams needing them.

I do disagree with your COL take though they have so much cap space and could dump Francouz for a 7th rounder. Sign any of those goalies to a 1 or 2 year deal for 5-6 mill and it won't mess with their cap situation. Unless of course they chase after Hall and Pietrangelo, then theyre out on goalies

You're correct. Francouz did have a .923 SV%. I only bring that up NOT because COL couldn't sign a goalie. More so because I think you're correct that they'll focus elsewhere vs the goalie position.

Caggiula is a useful enough depth forward, but Ottawa already has more depth forwards than they know what to do with. Josh Norris, Drake Batherson, Logan Brown, and Rudolfs Balcers all scored over a point-per-game in the AHL, while Nicholas Paul finally graduated to the NHL. Some of those players also had extended NHL call-ups, and most of these forwards will be on the Senators' NHL roster next season. Especially with Bobby Ryan healthy again, there's not much room for a guy like Caggiula. It's just not a good enough fit for the Senators (a rebuilding team) to justify trading back.

Florida might make for a better trade partner. They'll be right up against the cap (assuming they re-sign most of their UFAs), but they don't have many inexpensive young players who are ready for depth roles in the NHL. A cheap, versatile forward like Cagiulla could fit into their bottom 6.
