Florida

Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2020
Published: Jul. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Built around the idea of the Panthers wanting to cut salaries for the upcoming season, which has probably only been exacerbated by the potential of a flat cap over the next two seasons.

It saves the Panthers nearly $500k if Benson plays in the NHL and about $1.25M if he stays in the minors for another season while also completely taking Acciari's and Vatrano's salaries off the books for the following season. Russell effectively becomes a cheaper Pysyk replacement and Chiasson - if used in a role similar to how Noel was this past season - will perform about as equally. The move frees up more cap space for Edmonton and adds more offense to the bottom half of the roster.

Lines function similarly to how they did the previous season: two high-octane lines, a garbage-minutes and tough match-ups third line, and a sheltered minutes fourth line. Pairings are built around complimentary skill sets, ensuring each pair has a puck-mover and a more defensively-orientated partner.

Some combination of Neal and Jones lost to Seattle during expansion. Abramov and Samorukov replace them on the roster. Larsson and Nugent-Hopkins resigned at $3.5M/4y and $7.15M/7y respectively.

2020 Draft:
#20. (RC) Mavrik Bourque (Shawinigan, QMHJL)
#46 (via CBJ). (LW) Roby Jarventie (KOOVEE, Mestis)
#82. (LW) Carter Savoie (Sherwood Park, AJHL)

FLA will likely decline. They could lose both Dadonov and Hoffman in the offseason, they will certainly need to keep a player like Vatrano. And Acciari is a great 4th liner.

Dear Beter: I checked your math because I'm familiar with the discrepancies between Florida cap hits and actual compensation and see that you did your homework -- the figures set forth in your second paragraph as net effect are absolutely correct.

As can be expected, I like everything about this, but subscribe to the theory that Florida may not want to part with these guys.

Agreed. I'd also assume that the Panthers would be content letting Pysyk walk, and replacing him with an internal option, as opposed to Kris Russell. This should also give them the space to re-sign Weegar.

They do sound like they're trying to cut costs though, so you might even see a guy like Matheson moved.

Florida deal: the only thing flordia is getting of value is benson while losing accari and vatrano. They most likely decline
Ottawa deal: I have seen this deal a lot in the past few weeks. The oilers should accept

I think there's a good chance OTT regrets that deal but I would understand them rolling the dice on it since we're looking fairly set for left handed wingers.
So I don't know... I guess if OTT went for it I'd shrug and hope for the best. BUT any EDM fans screaming it isn't enough are mad, this is for sure the best deal they'd get.
