Woah, I think it's close.
I wanna hear what @oldnyifan says.
It's not close, Gibson as great as he is definitely doesn't get Buffalo into the playoffs when they no longer have Eichel - without Eichel Buffalo might score a 100 goals over 82 games
I know at least Buffalo fans would want more for Eichel and I feel more should be heading Buffalo's way so this ACGM is my way of starting a discussion on what needs to be added.
heres the problem with this deal... gibson who is a stud and could help carry a contender is being swapped to another rebuilding team. It would make more sense to trade gibson to a carolina who needs a goalie. but at the same time. Why would anaheim give a way a 26 year old goalie. its hard to find goalies of his caliber.
Bad bad deal for BUF, Yeah Gibson is one of the more valuable goalies in the league but Eichel is a 23 YO Frasnchise #1 C and those have way more value than Goalies, even if they are franchise caliber goalies
And I cant see Eichel waving to go to a team that would be around the same as BUF is now

I think that it's very close. Fortunately, in the real world, I don't think this dilemma arises because Buffalo won't trade Eichel. I'd hate to exile Gibson to Buffalo but with the kind of free-agent goalies on the market this particular off-season, I'd say Yes as Anaheim and then pay Lehner and Greiss whatever they asked. Don't worry, I could make the money work.

Ducks need to add something significant here
You don't think Eichel plus Lehner plus the team we have now plus the prospects we have in the pipeline already doesn't make us contenders for the next 5 years?!?!?

What a great proposition!!
Thoughts on how to get Buffalo on board?
Maybe move Ullmark for a major piece? And offer sheet Cirelli big time?
Honestly I feel like something like Henrique and maybe the BOS first? But then i dont think that makes sense for the Ducks

Does Gibson for Eichel push us past what BUF would be? I'm not sure, not saying we wouldnt be contenders but what if we dont get Lehner? our Defense isnt good enough to not have a true #1 Goalie and we would sink I feel

Eichel doesn't have trade protection. You're not allowed to have trade protection in your contract until your first UFA eligible season. it was one of the reasons why the Nylander contract took so long to get done. Nylander felt if he took a team-friendly contract, his contract would be desirable to other teams and he could easily be traded out of Toronto when the inevitable cap crunch occured.
Anaheim needs to add if they want Eichel. Gibson is a good starting piece, better than most teams could offer, but he doesn't return Eichel 1 for 1.

Oh thats my mistake I thought he did, thanks for that catch good point.

Why would Ducks say no?
Even Gibson and Henrique for Eichel, I'd do it eyes closed no problem
Gibson is the only reason why the Ducks weren’t last. Eichel were the only reason why the Sabres weren’t last. Both teams need those players to stay on their team.
