Leafs are LAFFing

Created by: HardLeafer87
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In the bizarre world the NHL fixes this draft the wrong way and Leafs lose play-in round, Laffy frees up rushing Robertson in case he needs another year and allows us to trade off AJ and Kap for needs on blue line and some cap space - don’t like moving Dermott but may have to. Also allows time for blue liners to fight for last 2 spots and even play 7 freeing up forwards to have a mix of Laffy, Auston, Marner, Willie, JT, even Barabanov to cycle around the lines for extra time and find chemistry with others. Mainly allows our big boys up front to really carry the load for ice time and chances since they’re paid for it.
What is also great is under this scenario, Carolina would have NO first round pick this draft on top of missing out on Laffy.
Expansion Draft Protect List:
Matthews
Tavares
Marner
Nylander
Hyman
Kerfoot
Mikheyev
Reilly
Pesce
Muzzin
Andersen

Exposed to be picked:
Engvall
Holl

If no Laffy then Robertson may very well be third line with Mickey back up with JT and Willie if management confident in Robertson along with cap necessity.

Easy to say. A RW that Canes can use and already have rumoured high interest in along with a maybe recently fizzled, but still high end skilled prospect on that side. May take Dermott or another pick there along with but the idea isn’t far off along with the cap $$ going both ways.

before the season started Pierre LeBrun, reported a deal was being discussed whereby Dubas would send Kapenan+Brown to the Hurricanes and Pesce would come to the leafs. However, Dubas turned it down but no reason was given.

So sure he had a good season but the canes almost moved him.

Also a significant shoulder injury that can be a question mark coming back and durability. Still don’t think it takes much more than what’s presented like what some people may think.

it's a shoulder injury... most players come back 99% fine from leg injuries... a one of shoulder injury really shouldn't change his value...

His 16-19 time frame was still a top 10 D man. I wouldn't move that for anything close to this offer bc 1 down year (where he was still a net positive)

So you undersell, and hard, on the Dermott-Johnsson deal, but oversell on Kapanen. Not sure I've seen that before. If Kapanen plus a prospect got the Leafs Pesce, I am sure it would be done by now. To get Pesce in a 1-for-1 deal, it will take Nylander, in my opinion.

Pesce for Nylander is a hard oversell on Leafs side. Nylander flirting with 40 goals this season and has the high chance to do that year after year and if anyone thinks it’s Pesce straight up for that then that’s a steal for Carolina all the way.
I said above the theory of the trade laid out may take another piece or two like another young Dman and/or pick but it’s not as far off as people assume. Certainly not as far off as Nylander for Pesce is 😂
