Nylander's great season this past year puts his value at more like a 1-for-1 with Pesce. While I am sure a lot of fans will disagree with me, particularly Canes fan, let me ask you this? How much is scoring worth to the Canes in lieu of defensive hockey? There is enough offensive UFAs available this offseason for the Canes to simply avoid paying anything but money and cap space, but Nylander, in addition to his season scoring pace, also comes with good value and good term, things you can't often get in the UFA market.

Toronto gets fleeced in both trades.

Nylander > Pesce
Liljegren >>> 1 year of McGinn

Kerfoot >>> Bennett
Dermott >> Jankowski

Also DeMelo gets 3.5M and you didn't even sign Jankowski who has a 1.8M QO.

I like Pesce but i think Nylanders year elevated his value above Pesce.

I don't like the Calgary trade. Bennet is basically a bust. He can play minimal mintues and has added a bit of toughness to his game but i wouldn't want to give anything of real value for him. Jankowski could bounce back to his previous two years i would love him as a 4th line Centre. i think you forgot to even sign him after acquiring him in this scenario.

Not sure what you are doing with LTIR. Are you planning on just trading those players but didnt bother to make specific trades? Just don't sign Toffoli and keep those guys. I would be happy to sign Demelo. I can see him getting 3M because of his age and the fact that he is a righty who had a good defensive season, but i would only want him if we could get him for a tiny bit cheaper.

I'm pretty sure they just don't want Nylander.

I like the trade.

@MG1986 mentioned the Canes can get other offensive help, if wanted. Although with about 2.5 million in cap space we would be hard pressed to get something good.

At the same time there are a few RHDs up for grabs with DeMelo, Vatanen, and TVR as adequate RHDs without giving up Nylander.

Having Nylander on the right side of Aho and Turbo would be fantastic. Necas and Svech anchoring a 2nd line would be a sick 2nd line, no matter their center.

I do it, it would be tough though

In every deal, especially when it's a hockey trade, you generally notice that a team that wants something has to give up something quality in return. So, my point here is that if the Canes chose to deal for Nylander, it says, and I am sure most people would agree, that they value him more as a percentage then what they'd get on the UFA market for the price, or what they would acquire in a different offense-for-defense deal (ie on UFA market, is paying Talyor Hall $10 million AAV over 7 years worth more to the Canes, who will for sure run into cap issues, they dealing for Nylander who comes with good term and a good AAV)? Assuming the answer is yes, which is why we are here on this AGM, a 1-for-1 deal for Brett Pesce should be on the table. I would imagine on the Leafs end, the Leafs value Pesce more than they would for premium UFA (should he get there) Alex Pietroangelo, based on the AAV and term he'd demand. Seems like a win-win for both teams, though I am sure a lot of Canes fans don't see it that way :P

I would also like to get DeMelo for 3 million but I think the Leafs would have to go to 3.5-4 million range to get him.

Also agree with you on Bennett. If the Leafs can get him without giving much up, I'd think about it but it stops if the asking price is higher.

Have we not been over this? Nylander for Pesce 1 for 1. That's fair. a 2RW (and arguable the best 2RW in the league for a 2RD (And probably the 8th best RD in the NHL) is a fair trade.
