Hawks decline. You can have maata, but we don't want one of your defencemen back. Give us a 3rd round pick and he's yours

Hawks should accept tbh, Montour would probably thrive in Chicago’s no defense system

A bad defense doesn't mean system change. The Hawks want to play 2 way hockey. Not run and gun like TOR and PIT.

The Hawks need to shed cap. I don't think they'll want Montour unless they can flip him. Nothing about his playing style at all. Just can't take the cap hit.

I had seen people speculating if buffalo could give him one last kick at the can. He wouldn’t be a financial burden and could have solid upside if he can hold his offense and possession numbers. I do understand that though haha

A team can always use a play-driving defender and Montour is actually good at transition hockey. For whatever reason, Kreuger seemed not too thrilled with him though this year. The cap does make sense, he’d probably be comparable salary-wise to Maatta. If buffalo took a little money in a salary dump, would there be more interest?

As a player, I would be interested in Montour, but the cap is the larger problem and then problem B is that the Hawks believe they have too many Dmen already. So picks/ YOUNG prospect are more sought after.

With that said, If I were BUF....I'd offer as little as possible for Maatta. Sure, Stan has more than one team he can trade Maatta to, but he doesn't have A TON of options. If his options don't pan out...Maatta's going to be bought out. Offer a 2nd or even 3rd in 2022 and I think Stan would take it.

He had a tough season. Does not seem to fit what Kreuger scheme is. Having said that, I would be open to getting him to a 2 year deal or so to see if he can turn it around for us

Hmm maybe. Or they might say to keep Asplund and we'll have a deal... as long as no one beats the pick.
