I would maybe do it if you took out the 3rd on the oilers trade and just do it one for one, especially that we are most likely going to lose Jones to Seattle.

If in the extremely unlikely scenario that VAN ends up with Lafreniere, then I'm all over these moves. But in the more likely scenario that VAN doesn't win the lotto, Virtanen is going to need to play a pretty big role with the team next season. I really like the idea of adding Cernak, but weakening the forward group that's already likely to lose Toffoli is probably counterproductive.

Not sure 1 for 1 would work, but the 3rd could be 5th round pick

And he has the skill set the Canucks could desperately use. Fingers crossed.

They need many of these prospects to work out. If Juolevi, Rathbone and Woo are solid NHL dmen who can play 15-20min per game, this team's cap issues go away

Yep. Unfortunately we won't know if these guys will be able to do that until 2021 at the earliest. The team has some cap decisions to make before then.

Don't disagree, but I'm not sure why the team is in a rush. If you believe in these prospects as Benning claims he does, then this team will be a contender for a long period because of Pettersson and Hughes. So why spend assets to get rid of bad contracts, only to sign other veterans on long-term contracts.

Sign Markstrom to a reasonable 3-4 year deal < $6M and let Taffolli and Tanev walk. The team will be worse next year, but will have cap space to sign Hughes and Pettersson. By then some of the prospects should start to contribute.

I think that deal works for both teams under this scenario

I agree with all of the points on Marky, Toffoli and Tanev, but even if all three of those D prospects are on track to be solid NHL'ers the team should still look to sign one FA Dman if the cost isn't too high. Obviously Hughes and Myers are around long-term, but Edler is getting older and the jury is still out on whether Stecher can be a solid 2nd pairing guy. Ideally those prospects get acclimated to the big league by starting in sheltered 3rd pairing minutes and matchups rather than being thrown in over their heads too soon.

I like the "Chicago" model where you leave enough cap room to sign a difference maker to get you over the top. They had a young core, many very good supporting pieces, and then added Hossa. Miller might be that for Vancouver. No issues adding around the edges as well as you indicate.
