Keep Pietrangelo realistic

Description
I gave Pietrangelo what Josi got. It'll be close to that. Maybe a hair more.

Steen has a full NTC and wants to stay so would likely have to be bought out.

Bozak has a limited 10 team NTC so I kicked out the bottom 10 teams in the NHL. Of those remaining only possibly the Canadiens would be off his list and have any desire for him, but I anticipate with some salary retained and making it worth their while.

Flyers have a 1 year goaltending conundrum with Hart taking over. Jake Allen is a perfect fit.

I don't think Erik Foley will be the 13th forward, but he's a placeholder for whoever Armstrong can find for a cheap $1,000,000 short term deal to add depth at forward.

Faulk would then have to be swung to Seattle in the expansion draft next summer. Could be an expensive trade for the Blues to get out of that but that would be the only way to make that work to keep other guys moving forward.

MTL accepts, but we’d probably retain $2 million and flip Bozak to a team that needs him.

Also, Pietrangelo should make $9,027,000 instead.

We’re not going to have to pay to get rid of Bozak, especially if we retain. Bozak has been great defensively this year and if he had some guys who could actually shoot, he’d have more points. We’re not going to get a ton back, but a weak center class and him only having one more year should be desirable to teams.

We're not paying you to take Bozak. He may be $1-1.5M overpaid, but he definitely has important value to a team that wants to win.

And, dude, Foley is almost certainly never going to play again. And we don't need more forwards anyway.

I mean honestly it wasn’t even a “bad” trade. Like as a rental on a cup run, Faulk is a great bottom pairing D. Gives the blues a really strong RHD for the 2019/20 season. The weird thing was signing him to an extension right after they acquired him with Petro needing an extension as well.

If he was just a pure one season rental I wouldn’t knock the trade. It gives the defending Stanley cup champs an even better d core. Just the extension was so poorly thought out.

It also seemed rush knowing Pietro was up at the end of this season

That's why I wonder if Armstrong knew something at the time that none of us knew: namely that Pietrangelo is gone and we weren't going to be re-signing him. That's the only way it makes sense.

Fair points. The issue is the cap hit for sure. With his limited 10 team NTC that basically lobs off the teams with the cap space to take him on. Blues would certainly have to eat some salary to get others to take him... which almost defeats the whole purpose. It's a problem.

As I said in my explanation, he's a placeholder for whoever slots in there.

Seriously? Look at this roster, we are really thin at forward if there's injuries. You have 2 injuries and what then? Kostin and who else? MacEachern and Kyrou have "graduated" there isn't a whole lot there. We ABSOLUTELY need a 13th forward as insurance.
