again he did it against men in the khl if the leafs came to him with this offer he could get double that to go play in the khl lol. The leafs have to compete with the KHL for his services. I 100% could see him going back if the leafs low balled him like this.

Then he goes back. The Leafs won't be off terribly if he goes back (which he won't.)

There's a chance they give him that deal and he's bad.

That just shows how much of a better GM this poster would make than you. He wants to start negotiating low and you want to go straight for 2.25M+ based off of 30 games and a gut feeling......

Who said I wont start negotiating low LMFAO??? I would start low, but I feel like it would end in that 2Mx3y area which would be fair contract for Mikheyev. Its not a gut feeling.. I watched him play in KHL before and after transition to NHL. He would continue to be as good as he was.

if youre buying a year its gotta be higher. 50 point players dont grow on trees. i mean realistically speaking if he plays the entire year no injury whats his contract start at?

He will not cost 2.25M+ he played 30 games and had a serious injury, regardless of how he played before that. Hence why he will most likely cost no more than 1.75M on a 2 or 3 year deal.

40 games but youre looking at minimum 1.75 for 1 year deal for this guy with flat cap.

I don't doubt he could get more playing in the KHL. But the bottom line is, if he wants to play in Toronto in the best league in the world, he will have to take a bit of hit on a 1 or 2 year contract in order to make more later. Soup and Dan Milstein, don't seem like the super greedy type. He will be well taken care of in Toronto and they know it. I fully believe he'll be a solid top 6 winger btw, but like I stated earlier, the Leafs cap situation combined with a small sample size is not helping him.

i think thats light. but 1 year nhl track record they probably give him a 1 year 3m deal to see if he replicates. with injury ide say its closer to a 1 year 1.75-2m deal 2 years i feel like comes in at 2.5

If you fully believe he will be a solid top 6 player why wouldnt he believe that as well? how many top 6 guys you see in the league making under 2m?

Its a factor but he was probably the best forward on Leafs besides top-4 and Hyman.. so I dont think 1.5M is good enough contract for player of his qualities.

Not disagreeing with you but, in all honesty he has played less than 40 games in the NHL, total.

It's the same argument on Georgiev, sample size is too small.

Id rather pay him fairly now and then get the bonus of having a great contract value for the whole duration of flat cap then thinking about resigning him for 4+M once he proves to be awesome in the middle of flat cap situation..

How would you feel if he signed another 1 year and bet on himself? This actually happens more often then what your proposing.

oh i dont disagree but like that shouldnt really be the players problem. if they cant afford him he should seek a trade. i dont see him signing a super low offer for a couple years because he got injured his first year in the nhl. he would have been 3+ without injury. just because he gets injured his value isnt going to shrink that much unless he lost wrist strength.

And what happens if he falls flat on his face? You are now stuck with a $2+M 4th line player or worse a guy who can't make your lineup. I get your reasoning, I just think it's short sighted.

Just look at past examples, that shows 1.75 is probably too high.

its not shortsighted. Mikheyev would never be 4th liner. At worst he would fall to be an average 3rd liner which for 2M and a change is still a fair deal for like 3 years. If he hits his ceiling, he is a top-6 player and thats a steal. At worst you get fair contract.
