Description
I feel the Rangers could be good trade partners with the Leafs because they have a lot of right hand shooting defencemen, which is exactly Toronto needs. Obviously understanding that he might not waive for, I feel Jacob Trouba for Mitch Marner would make sense. Indeed, Trouba had a down year for his standards, but I feel that moreso has to do with coaching, since Lindy Ruff isn't very good. He still ranked in the 65th percentile in expected goals against, which is pretty good plus averaged 22 minutes a game. He is the top pair RD Toronto needs.

Leafs decline. Marners value is much higher than Trouba. I doubt leafs trade Nylander for Trouba

Nah. Trouba is overpaid. NYR should be retaining on Trouba if anything not Toronto retaining on Marner.

A more fair deal would be

You guys are seriously undervaluing Trouba. Check his stats, he didn’t generate much offence this season but was good at suppressing scoring chances. He’s a good shutdown defenceman, maybe not worth 8, but he solves all the problems on Toronto’s defence.

Nylander has more value for Marner, if Toronto was moving him, they would be asking for Fox.

Col. 2nd and a 21 3rd at most. Not giving away 34th overall for Georgiev when we can sign a ufa goalie this summer and not lose any assets.

Why are we moving Marner for so little if we aren't even getting the cap space? Trouba is just as overpaid as Marner.

Marner is still debatably a top 10 winger in the league. Trouba is a solid D man but he isn't elite. He's the 3rd best RHD on the NYR.

Yea, no. The Marner-trouba trade is awful. Marner for Fox is more reasonable. Trouba was awful this year and hes paid like a top 8 defenseman when he isnt even a top 50 defenseman in the league. The Leafs arent going to retain on marner, they already get a terrible contract

Get real, Marners value is way higher then Trouba's, Trouba wont play in Canada. And fat chance in hell you get any retention on Marner strictly for Trouba.

Trouba was one of the top defenders in the NHL when he played for Winnipeg. On Toronto, he will be a legit top pairing option. Honestly, Toronto has better use paying big money to Trouba than they do for Marner.

Damn the hate on Trouba is really strong on this site. Trouba had a down year, but that was mostly cuz of the poor coaching. When he played for Winnipeg, he was maybe a top 20 defender in the league. He can play a shutdown role, that’s exactly what Toronto needs.

did.....did you actually look at the stats? he was terrible. He had 3 goals and 17 points in 70 games, and pretty much god awful advanced stats. he got absolutly hammered in shots and chances against, etc etc etc. he was terrible. Like, you arnt even looking at the numbers, there is no way you looked them up and thought he did well.

Consensus between Shark fans and Ranger fans was that the SJS 2nd was what Gergiev is worth 1 for 1. I'm still not sure I love that, but that's whats kinda been agree upon.
