There is no way Colorado will be signing Barrie. If they do, the Kadri/Barrie trade would look worse than what it is right now.

I love Barrie and think it would be pretty funny if he came back. Not as funny as Duchene, but funny nonetheless.

That said, I wouldn't do it. Timmins is ready, and I think the team will use the season to work both him and Byram into action (BB first but only for 9 games, then Timmins on a permanent basis). Barrie throws a wrench in the gears. Fun to think about though.

The final dagger in the heart of leafs fans with the kadri trade would be barrie going back and playing extremely well again for COL

i'd take him back on a one year deal but i don't think barrie would do that.

Barrie might fancy his odds of riding out the flat cap while rebuilding his value a bit for a year or two with a team he knows well, and where he still has a residence, while also competing for a cup. If there's anyone who knows how to get the best out of him it's Bednar.

I don't see how adding a 50-60 point Dman "throws a wrench in the gears". It just means that Timmins would get another year to marinate in the AHL with top pair and 1st PP/PK minutes, which might actually be better for his development than a sheltered role in the NHL.

The whole when next season starts and how many games there are could affect Byram. Personally I think they stick him with Cole on the 3rd pairing and let him do his thing in the NHL, while Cole does the heavy lifting defensively. There will probably be some hiccups but I don’t see any benefit to him playing in the WHL for another year.

He probably wouldn't produce like that considering he'll be behind Makar. Also, I want Timmins to get significant time in the NHL (especially if Byram doesn't stick) so the team isn't rolling with two rookies the following season. I think that's important.

This is not to say your point isn't valid. It's just not an ideal scenario in my mind.

Possible. If the tournaments aren't cancelled then I think they'll keep him around for a while and then send him back to play in those. That also frees up space for Timmins. Both youngsters get time.

Byram can rejoin the team when his WHL season (and career) ends.

Possibly, and there is a possibility that they want his contract to slide. I just think his play keeps him with the Avs.

I hope it does. The best outcome is that he makes it impossible to do anything but keep him around.

It would be incredible and we all enjoy watching Leafs fans complain...almost as much as watching Habs fans propose insanely one-sided trades in their favor, but you've got Byram rolling as the 7th D my friend...

I put Byram as a 7D there (note not as a scratch) just to indicate that he'd probably be in the lineup, whether it's with 7D 11F, or replacing Cole. He would obviously be more than a typical 7d.
