Combination of ideas

Description
Loading up on contracts that expire in 2 years. It’s a combo of some ideas I’m playing with.

1st, Leddy is the payment for taking Boychuk and it’s sheltering the D until they are ready.

Tampa deal brings in mentors as in another czech for Zadina and bringing in gemel to help his little bro. Tampa gets a great 4th line center and a former first round pick who’s had injury issues.

Vancouver it’s a back up/ 3rd stringer along with bottom 6 players for a future goalie and a bad contract

I debated about adding more as in a prospect but didn’t want to be greedy

Way too much to take on for Detroit, We're still rebuilding and no way Yzerman spends up to the cap with a possible flat cap for the foreseeable future.

I tried to give them something useful since they traded for Domingue last year and to give them cheaper bottom 6 players

I'm wouldn't want to do the Islanders trade because of the salary we would take on. Leddy and Boychuk combine for $11.5 mil for the next 2 years and we wouldn't be adding any pieces to our rebuild. I agree with the idea that we should bring in some guys to shelter our prospects but I think Seider will be NHL ready when next season starts and we could sign some guys in free agency. We could get a lot more from the Vancouver trade. Eriksson's contract is worth either a 1st and a 3rd/4th or Demko and a 2nd imo.

You could be more greedy. As an Isles fan I still think I’m fair,I would include a 3rd and either Aho or Salo with that package.

I don’t see us being ready to contend until 22 so taking on the contracts and sheltering the kids/bringing in veterans to help them was the goal. I was going to have seider come up as soon as green gets injured (as always) or once he gets dealt at the deadline. During the 21 season we would be able to move the veterans brought in. However come 22 we would have 33 million coming off the books and ready to buy and be ready to make runs.

Warrior is a islanders fan so I waited for there feedback so we could add some more prospects from them. Vancouver I could not see them adding even more since Demko could be a number one goalie

If we take him on he shelters others and helps the left side which we badly need. He may not be a terrible mentor for Cholowski once Nemeth is dealt at the deadline

I agree that we won't be ready to compete for a while and I like the idea of bringing in some veterans. I don't mind the Islanders trade that much if we could add some prospects or picks. I also wouldn't mind just taking Boychuk and being compensated better-I think Boychuk is still a solid NHL defenceman and would be a good leader.

We could definitely get more from Vancouver. I'll assume that you agree that Eriksson's contract is worth a 1st+3rd/4th or somewhere around that. While Demko has been looked at as a future star, he's not worth quite that much. He's already 24 and hasn't really broken out yet. He definitely could become a starter but he could also never turn into anything. Also, with the future Seattle expansion draft, Vancouver wouldn't be able to protect Demko since Markstrom looks like the goalie of the future. I see Demko worth around a high 2nd, and then add another 2nd to get to similar value to a 1+3/4.

The problem is taking him with boychuck is alot of cash for 2 years.

So adding another B level prospect from both teams is what you are saying which seems doable

Pretty much. I think I’d rather sign a free agent then get Leddy so we could save some cap to take on other contracts and be compensated better for taking on Boychuk but a B prospect or 2nd round pick would probably get both deals done.

2 years of money of seasons that we are not competing for a championship. It’s adding on players for a season and a half to mentor and then shipping them off at the deadline for more picks and prospects. Detroit won’t attract big name free agents until they show they can compete or it’s over paying a player to come here for the $.

That's exactly what he can provide a team, and I don't understand why other teams don't see that from him. He's a good top-4 LHD, just isn't fit as well with Trotz as we would've liked. He's a perfect fit for Detroit in that way.
