The Parise to NYI ship likely sailed after the Isles traded for and signed Pageau long-term.

If Minnesota retains that much, then maybe. But all three RFAs will make a lot more and I doubt Boychuk or Komarov will be on LTIR.

Trade is probably good value though, maybe NYI adds more for the retention. I’m still very skeptical of Parise though

Yup. That contract is less than half of what he'll actually get. Could be mid-5's to high 6's depending on length

Agreed. Because I don't see us retaining anything on his contract unless it's a very small amount. Especially at 5 years remaining. Once that JGP trade went through, I also think that likely ended any Parise to NYI trade due to cap issues on New York's end.

Elite? Eh, close but no. He's a strong top-pairing defenseman, but he's missing that IT factor that Doughty has to make him... Doughty. I love Pulock, he's extremely underrated around here. This contract is ridiculous, as is Toews' here.

I don't agree. The rumors of Parise-for-Ladd came out after Pageau was acquired. It's probably a different deal than what was originally proposed in February, but I think it's still possible.

The rumor came out after the trade but it sounds like the trade talks with the Wild were happening around the same time as the Senators. The Sens were just able to get the deal done first. Here's the Wild's beat writer (the person who reported the potential Parise trade initially), Michael Russo, on more details of the trade a couple days after the deadline. He does say it's his guess, but typically when he says stuff like this he isn't blowing smoke (as an example he says he guesses Bellows was involved in the trade but then goes on to say he had sources telling him Bellows was involved in the Koivu portion of the trade talks).

Talk starts around 5:00 and end around 8:50. There's more talk after 8:50 but the meaty portion is in that timeframe.

Could a trade still happen? Maybe, but based off of what Russo said I think the Islanders were more interested in Koivu to help their center depth than Parise. And it doesn't make a ton of sense for us cap-wise to move a retained Parise for Ladd.

My only gripe is how little Pulock and Toews got here. But you left 7.5m in cap space, and you could use that to address that.
