Oh my god no it's not. The Flames are getting screwed here even with Frost in the deal.

LMAO what? Flames are taking on to awful contracts a decent prospect and a late first fpr a superstar. That trade is already lopsided for Philly

I agree he had a really bad year, but I’d take a flyer and sign a cheap contract but I wouldn’t give up more than a 6/7 for him, we do ok with reclamation projects (I.E. Noesen) and his size and experience would fit nicely on Penalty kill and 4th line with 3 C upside

Real question.... does the trade look better without Ghost? JVR, Frost, and a pick for Johnny Gaudreau?
...because if Ghost is just a cap dump, I'd be glad to keep him.

The Flames don't have any use for JVR. We'd be getting a much worse LW, who is much older, yet miraculously he's paid more. Frost and a pick doesn't make up for that downgrade.

No the trade doesn't look better. The trade is bad to begin with.
Ask yourself this, Team A is competing and has Giroux, Team B is also competing and offers Ghost, JVR, Frost, and a late 1st. Or offers that deal without Ghost. Do you take either?

I get it. I think its wild that you'd want to get rid of Gaudreau.
I was more asking because I don't agree that Ghost is a bad contract. He had a down year this year with the injuries and frustration, but he has a ton of potential and think a reset will bring out the best in his game.

I personally am 100% against trading Gaudreau, he is a rare talent that had a bad year, it happens. I don't think Ghost is bad by any means but Gustafsson is very likely cheaper to resign for roughly the same job. Regardless, Flames are not in the market for more LD

Gaudreau is amazing. But everyone is underrating Frost. Imo, he will AT LEAST be a solid 2C like Cirelli. Ghost can play both sides and he could still contribute imo. JVR, did yall see that i flipped him for another prospect with retention and i didnt keep him?

I love Frost, if the Flames trade Gaudreau to Philly at some point I really hope he's part of the return.

I don't think Tolvanen is a good enough prospect to be retaining $3,000,000 for 4 more seasons. (or is it 3? I can't remember?) Either way that's a lot of dead cap space for a cap spending team trying to win. Have to remember we have Lucic over paid by about $4 million too.

yeah true another idea would be to switch the 2nd from Nashville for a 1st. And then flip 1 or 2 of those 1st rounders for another established young player

The whole thing just seems like a bunch of pointless deck chair shuffling. The team was first in the west last year and had a rough season this year but still made playoffs, so in reality they probably lie somewhere in the middle. What they need is their young guys to continue developing and a top 6 replacement for Backlund to give the team depth down the middle. Not a blow up and rebuild.

Gaudreau has 2 years left and Monahan 3. Are they for sure re-signing and would u want to lock them up for 8 years into their 30s?

I would have little to no issue with that. Gaudreau plays a similar style to Kane and should age well as a player. Monahan will be a fine 2C in his 30's and can be counted on for putting up 30 goals almost every year
