One of the first Barzal trades that doesn't look *that* horrendous. I don't think it happens in real life but still

Interesting days ahead for isles, franchise could go a variety of different ways, hope they don’t sacrifice to much skill for grinders to play in the system and end up a constant bubble team.

Ugh, I don't want to do this because I don't want to move Barzal, but for Laine? Tough call. Our center depth would take a massive hit though.

Lot of hurt going both ways and some shoes to fill, but the good trades always seem to have a hold your breath moment or a gut punch at the end if they don’t work out.

It definitely does. But at the same time everyone gets bumped up a line. Is Brock a true 1C, no. But in Trotz's system I'm not sure how much that truly matters. JGP making $5M makes more sense as a 2C and Cizikas earns his pay at 3C. Could let Koivula or Bardreau fight for 4C.

I'm not discounting Barzy. I love him on this team. But in the grand scheme the trickle down doesn't seem all that bad

Ya would have to lead to other moves, and there does seem to be a lack of quality centers out there. Could work out good for both, but yes some question marks for sure.

I honestly think this hurts WPG more than NYI. They have C depth (not as good as Barzal) in JGP and Brock. I'm not sure Roslovic is a true top 6 winger yet but I'd like to see it. We're losing around 35-40 goals a year. Barzal likely replaces 25-30 of them. I like this trade a lot for both sides. Isles need scoring now, and jets need a 2C now.

I would just love to see the speed of that second line or some might say 1b, probably not going to happen, but definitely interesting

Nelson, Pageau, and Cizikas in the NHL. Koivula in the AHL. That's it. Our organizational center depth is atrocious.

Opens up a bunch of needed cap room, probably about 8 or 9 million to short term a ufa Center and longterm some of the nucleus, before next years negotiations with laine

Ladd makes this a huge cap struggle. It's interesting move for sure, but I think moving Laine would create as massive hole for WPG as moving Barzal for WPG creates. NYI center depth gets a major hit and same goes for the Jets.

However if Jets actually gets lucky and manages to win lottery, then they should do this and add to the pile. I mean just think about that TOP6.

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Lafreniere-Barzal-Ehlers

Holy f*cking sh*t.

I would do it in a heartbeat if we got Laf...Ladd's contract runs out when Laf's ELC runs out so it would be fine

Intriguing offer, but Elite, 1st line Centers are very hard to find, and if I were Lou, I'd turn down any deal that involves losing Barzal unless we get a different 1st line Center back.

If Winnipeg wants to lose Laine and is willing to take Ladd's contract, would they be interested in, say, Pulock+a non-Barzal Top 6 forward? Maybe Nelson or Eberle?

If the deal was made I think it's closer to a 1 for 1 then it is adding Ladd. I do think that Barzal has more value because he's a C and a more complete player now, but Laine is an elite goal scorer and is improving every aspect of his game. THey are both super young (Laine one year younger) and will have long careers of putting up points.
If the islanders feel they can survive losing their #1 C and if the jets feel they have enough wing depth to lose Laine then the deal is good for both. I do think Winnipeg would need to add some sort of kicker (without the Ladd contract being part of it)

No the only move for laine would be a forward that takes his protection spot in expansion, and warrants the 50 million that the jets have earmarked for him. Jets have been semi successful in adding other teams castoffs on the blueline to fill holes, and been drafting reasonably well for the blueline to pay a premium for anyone back there. The youth of laine, would probably lead the jets wanting someone also young. But just a jets fan opinion.

I just wonder with Ladd, there be a renaissance with going somewhat home and replacing a exodus of pearrault and probably Lowry in the bottom 6 after a year, with a little veteran leadership with copp and a bunch of kids. But yes that contract would be quite a premium to pay. I just think it would take a big relief and something rather shiny to pull barzal away with a mediocre free agent Center market.

I would possibly auction off Laff to the highest bidder, especially if mtl gets nostalgic for a French Canadian star, could have a couple firsts a year for a while if they get out of hand and couple young players not needed to be protected in expansion
