Jets ideal long term outlook situation

Created by: Zucster
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2020
Published: Jul. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In this scenario the Jets won the first overall pick after losing in the play in round

The Eichel trade makes a lot of sense when you really think about it. Jack is unhappy in Buffalo and will want out eventually. In return, they get an elite two-way centre and another great 2nd-3rd line centre for the same cap hit Eichel has. It will fix a lot of depth issues for Buffalo without creating a hole at 1C.

The Toronto trade was to try and improve the team's depth while also relieving some unnecessary cap for the leafs, it's a win-win on both sides.

Pittsburgh trade makes sense for both sides also. Wheeler is around the same age as Crosby and Malkin so the Penguins acquiring him isn't so bad of an idea. It will greatly improve their chances at pushing for the cup while they can in the Crosby era since Wheeler is a very elite player. DeSmith is the third-string in Pittsburgh so they wouldn't mind seeing him leave, and Marino is very good for the Jets since they need defensive help badly. The 2nd/conditional first makes the trade more even.

If eichel is unhappy in buff? What makes him happy in wpg especially with the leadership group traded away, and no ufas rushing to Winnipeg

All of the young talent he will be surrounded by, and the fact that the team just won Laf will be a massive attraction. Playing with 2 of 4 of Laine, Connor, Laf, or Ehlers is way better than anything he ever got to play with in Buffalo.

Fair enough, that would stack up the top 6 rather nice

This team is absolutely stacked, but there is no way that pit even thinks about that

I maybe should have added a bit more going Pittsburgh's way thinking about it

2C just got weaker after trade and is no way Scheifele an elite 2 way centre but has potential but needs work in own end

Sure 2C is a lot weaker but in general the top 6 is a lot better and lot younger than it was last year. If you have both Laf and Laine on the second line you can live with having a less ideal center situation. Maybe elite defensively is a strong word, but either way you put it Buffalo is still going to have an elite center.

Lowry cannot be our 2c LOL, you should at least swap him and Copp. I think that the Pitt doesn’t make sense for either sides. Wheeler is the heart and soul of the team, if we lose him we lose a lot more than just a top RW. Marino is great and zucker is good, Pitt probably isn’t getting enough value back.

I think there’s a better way to take the team if we do win Laff and that’s moving Connor/Laine for a package with a top 4 RHD and 2C project. Buffalo might be an ideal place to make this happen. They have a lot of dman and need to give Eichel some weapons to work with to keep him there. This thread is too much, too much happening in one year, there’s 0 chance it gets blown up this much.

Marino is nearly untouchable. I doubt the Penguins would do Zucker straight up for Wheeler, especially with his cap hit. Wheeler, a prospect, 2021 1st for Zucker and Desmith.
