Intriguing.

What will be funny will be the responses from Habs fans saying Primeau is the heir apparent to Price, even though price is under contract for SIX more years.

There is not a team in the league that is trading first o/a if they win it. You get a top line player on an ELC for three years. It is want every GM in the league dreams about with the cap being basically flat over that time frame

exatcly, even if he is a stud they can't keep him much past his ELC. He's more valuable than the 7th round pick he was taken with for sure, but he's only played 2 NHL games. Habs fans think he's the next price already

Caufield,Primeau, and the 9th pick will all have 3 years of ELC's and suzuki has 2 years of it. The cap is not the problem here

this is probably fair but habs would say no because your taking 2 of their overrated/players their high on (Caulfield and primeau). I don't think hawks should even do this cause laf is a franchise player

Agreed, but this is a haul back for Laf. Likley two top 6 wingers on ELC's, starting (possibly franchise) goalie, and the 9th pick (hopefully Sanderson in this situation)

BUT the Hawks biggest need is a powerful scoring LW. Why not get a generational talent like that? He'll help drive lines for another decade+ like Kane. Just look at our own history. The Hawks did go #3 OA then #1OA before. Yeah I'd like to do that again.

If you buy the hype on caufield and I do you have to consider this. Im less high on laf being a franchise saviour. Its interesting.

Right but no team is going to give that type of package for it either so it just isn't going to work. Team winning it will.want a severe overpayment. In which case the deal makes no sense for the acquiring team

Hell no. God, just because Lafrenière is from Québec doesn’t mean that the habs would be willing to destroy their franchise just to land him. Man, people are insufferable.

It's a matter of how good Laf will be. Suzuki already looks like a 60 point + center, Caufield looks legit after his freshman season and could be a 25 goal 50 point player, add in a probable NHL starter goalie, and another top 10 pick that's likely to be a top 4 dman or top 6 winger..... all that would mean that Laf has to be that franchise 80+ point LW, which I dont think he is

I don't consider Laf a generational player i guess. I honestly think that phrase is thrown around too much. I don't call kane a generational player. Crosby and Mcdavid are modern day generational talents. That's it for me. I think Laf will be great. 1st line left winger probably ppg, but I think if we can get all this back in return its definetly worth considering

You put way too much stock into guys that haven't played in the NHL yet. Suzuki i'll give to you that was a fiar analysis. But Caufield played 1 year in NCAA's and you're lready calling him a 50 point per year basiclly top 6 forewards before he every plays against the big boys. thats a big assumption. Primuae has played 2 NHL games, and yeah he looked great, but he needs a larger sample size. Same with the draft pick. You can't assume its a top 6 winger or top 4 dman before the guy even gets drafted. Realisticlly theres only a 50% chance of hitting on that pick. If everyone on the other side of the trade develops the way they should this looks like a great deal for CHI, buts thats a big if. I do believe Laf will be a ppg type of player. All that being said I think the value here is fair. Laf looks a lot more like the sure thing and the hawks take a lot of risk with all these prospects, but the risk is worth it if 3 out of the 4 of these guys pan out

That's fine, I can agree with you on the term generational player, but I do think he can be a Patrick Kane type player. I would consider it, but not for long. Pieces can fit around #1OA talent easily. Heck, veterans are very willing to take discounts to win a cup. Brad Richards for example. It's nearly impossible to get a #1OA talent unless you draft it...or you're negotiating with Peter Chiarelli.

But as far as generational goes. He does have a ton of comps to Crosby. They're both (the only two) 2x CHL players of the year. Crosby got 9 points in his WJC where Laf got 10. I'd consider him an Auston Matthews/Patrick Kane level #1OA pick. More than Dahlin/Ekbland/Hughes. Less than Crosby/McDavid.

Love all the jealous haters in here. Sure they’re all prospects but they’re also all very highly rated prospects that you just don’t move. Caufield is a top 5 prospect in all of hockey right now, Primeau is a top 5 goalie prospect and Suzuki made an impact in his first year in the NHL and will continue to grow. Sure no NHL experience but they’re all projected to be impact players. Sure Laffy will be too but not worth moving all those valuable pieces.

lol Caufield a top 5 prospect in the whole sport? Comical. I guess what the guy earlier said is true about habs fans overrating their prospects.

Zegras, newhook, turcotte, cozens, bryam are 5 names in particular that come to mind as prospects I would rank ahead of caufield. I'm sure I could come up with more if I really cared at all

I mean that shows how much you know right there. The whole slight against Caufield was that he was a product of Hughes, people didnt know how he would be without this franchise center. This year he proved that he can drive a line by himself, because he did. Turcotte wasnt the best player on Wisconsin this year, Caufield was, and it wasnt close. Newhook and Zegras were on better teams and put up better numbers because of it. Scouts have Caufield as one of the top 5 best prospects because he was playing against bigger tougher opponents and was still a ppg player. Next year will be a big indicator of how well he can actually handle being the only star player on a team but after this college season Caufield showed he is a top player in the NCAA.

If you had 1st overall I'd would be inclined to trade but you would never get both Suzuki and Caufield together you would have to substitute. Mtl has 4 highly sought after young players, the three you mention and Romanov. For an elite player you could get 2, but not the 2 forwards.
