you left yourself 20 million dollars for next season to sign 10 players, including svechnikov and hamilton.

good luck.

Yeah Detroit passes not giving up the 2nd round and 6th round pick for a 32 year old backup with one year left. Do Helm and Reimer straight up one for one that's about it.

And this didn't leave much room for their best goalie prospect...by a mile...Pytor Kochetkov.

I see Svech getting a similar deal to Kyle Connor, except a little more expensive, and Hamilton at a range somewhere between 8-9M AAV. Having Denisenko, David Cotton, (maybe) Bokk, and lots of matured budget depth in the AHL level helps a lot.

Helm for Reimer 1-for-1? Hahahahahaha no way. Reimer had a very good rebound season this year, while Helm is a fringe player these days. You certainly need a good draft pick to balance out the deal.

Then Detroit passes. It makes no sense for a rebuilding team to trade a 2nd round pick for a fringe starter.

I just used Detroit as an example. Reimer can easily return a 3rd or a 4th by himself, and maybe even a late 2nd in a 50% retained situation. He was one of the better platoon goalies in terms of analytics this season. Including Helm's bad contract enhanced the draft pick return.

Detroit passes a 2nd for 32yr old with 1 year left on his contract. There is a plethora of other options for a team looking for a backup goalie.

ok, so thats 16 million dollars, you have 4 million to sign 8 players and the league minimum is 750k

Then you have the Expansion Draft, where Seattle is likely to accept one of Nino/Trocheck/Skjei for a draft pick/prospect. That frees up another 5 million. Again, only Svech and Hamilton are likely to cost a lot of cap space, so 9 million for 8 players is pretty doable, especially if a few of them are ELCs or ELC-like, like Cotton, Denisenko, McKeown, Lorentz, etc.

Necas is an easy pay. Nino and Trocheck expires right when Necas is up. The main obstacle to the roster is 2020-2021, but I've already discussed how that works out. It's very possible that the cap goes up by the time that Necas is up, as well, as I think that Friedman was being intentionally conservative/worst-case scenario about the 3-year flat cap.

i think you'll be depressed if you try to make a 2021-22 roster

the CBA sets forth that there is a flat cap for 2 years then it goes up 1 million

As of now, yes. If there's a big revenue spike post-vaccine, which is possible, that can radically change.

We have one of the better prospect pools in hockey, and we've slow-tracked many of them and will continue to until we absolutely need them. I don't think that our team will look all that depressed by 2021-22. Plenty of our prospects will be ready by that time to take the roles that Nino/Trocheck/McGinn/Martinook currently play on our club.

I think the most likely thing is that hamilton leaves, which solves any cap issue.

Not really. We pay seattle to take Skjei or Nino.

Honestly, Hamilton leaving is unlikely outside of a trade-and-sign before the next season starts. COVID actually tilts the negotiations in the Canes' favor in terms of AAV, and I think that an extension pact will be handed out shortly after the Expansion Draft. It wouldn't surprise me if it was only a 1-2 year extension in the $8M range, a sort of faux-bridge deal until the cap goes up again.

Y’all trying to cut costs. We need an incentive to take on Bob and Stralman. So we cut the value of Huberdeau to make it happen.

Reimer isn't any better than a guy we can get in free agency so giving a 2nd isn't worth it for a back up.

Cool. Doesn’t mean your owners want to keep all that salary

Bob is still a 52.5 million expense. Stralman still carries 11 million.

Yzerman hangs up, and then calls back a couple of days later when you STILL haven't been able to make a deal where you gain an asset for shedding cap, because that pretty much will not happen this autumn.
