Monahan is overrated, Cozens is more valuable. That trade would cripple this team

Nope, Monahan is super overrated. 30% of his career goals and points on the PP. Hes definitely not 1C pp guy in Buffalo. His stats will tank. Monahan is not even close to Cozens and 8OA. Besides you want a decade of Cozens or 2 years of a decent Monahan before he starts to decline and cost infinitely more

No. I doubt cozens will ever come close to an 80 point campaign. Seems like a 50 point player in the making.

This would be the best top 6 we have had since the lockout. And they are all realitvely young. So not really seeing the crippling effect.

I'll take the sure thing instead of another girgensons (aka cozens)

Cozens in Buffalo quickly becomes the new Mittalestadt - your rushing him out of desperation - has shown nothing at the NHL level - he's 2 years out before he should make an NHL team

if Monahan is going to decline in 2 years, does that mean we should trade eichel now? So we don't have to experience the decline of eichel.

He cant go to the A if their is a season anyway and hes done all he can in juniors, thats why they need a 2c to shelter him but they have 0 reason to move him. Hes one of the top 5 prospects in the league right now, #1 on some lists

Wonder how we got here 9 years on. Was it because we let our prospects develop or was it because GMTM came in and traded them all for win now players who were all gone within 4 years

you do realized how hyped girgensons was, right? Idk if you're old enough to remember the next big thing for buffalo girgensons and grigorenko. Then it was zadorov (bottom pair dman) and risto, who is very meh. Then there was Nylander, who thank God we traded. Then lets not forget about mittelstadt, the steal of the type ten.

I've been paying attention to hockey a long time. I'd put betting money that cozens is a 3rd line center.

if Monahan is declining at 27, im comparing their ages. You have a lot of bad takes.

actually they missed the playoffs last year because they traded O'Reilly and let lehner walk.

Having those two players on the roster this past season would have put us in the top 16, let alone the top 24.

Monahan is a product of his line mates, Eichel is a borderline generational talent, who unfortunately has to live in the shadow of McDavid while playing with absolute scrubs. The only reason the Sabres werent Detroit this year is because Eichel put them on his back again. They are incomparable and so far im again the only one reference stats and not feelings so my takes arent even takes just stats. Sorry hes overrated

Yeah true, 5 years after we acquired them and after we bottomed out again to draft Dahlin we would have been a wild card team. Real win now stuff out of those trades

Monahan would be a great 2nd line center. The only thing I was comparing is age.

That 2nd line would be loaded with speed, and have a center who likes to pass, and two wingers who love to shoot.

I dont disagree but he isnt worth what theyre giving up in any capacity. 8oa sure. Then Risto and Mitts for Hanafin, sure. Pilut is a throw in as he'll never play here again, sure. But theirs no reason to throw in Cozens. Thats way too much. CGY would decline this anyway as that would leave Backlund at 1c

30% of total goes on the PP is “high” for a 1st line center and first unit PP player? Huh?

What is Matthews’ %? How about Eichel? How about Kucherov?

Scoring 2 goals even strength to every one goal on the PP sounds like excellent production from a 30-40G scorer to me.

A terrible deal for Buffalo, Monahan is overvalued much more than Cirelli, without Gaudreau, he will not be able to lead the line. We have the second line is three players who can only score and do not know how to defend, except that only Boeser.

I checked a few PP points % for reference:

@Shibbal18

Eichel 35% PP points this year
Matthews 31%
McDavid 44%
Monahan 33%

Yup, I guess all these guys suck. McDavid is due for a massive regression next year, I guess...

Gotta know your facts...can’t use that “30% is bad” argument.

You clearly missed my point even though i typed it in there. Monahan wont be the number 1 center on the Sabres PP. So if you take away that PP time youre theoretically taking away 30% of his goals and 30% of his points. Or if he is put on the 2nd PP unit and his time is now halved thats a possibility of a 15% in reduction not even factoring in possible linemates. He isnt going to have Giordano and Gaudreau feeding him. That immediately drops his value if hes scoring 50 - 60 points instead of 80-85. Try to keep up

Im not going to bother arguing Monahan's value eith this guy because ive done it before, proved him wrong and he still ignores it. However, Monahan is known mostly for his goal scoring. He still leads his draft year in goals. If you are looking for a playmaking center for Olofsson/Skinner i suggest looking elsewhere.
