Protas imo is an A- big center from the WHL. 80 points in 58 games..... Cozen had 85 in 51 games.... people will all have different opinions on that comparison but hes definitely a great prospect to add

In that case it feels almost like an overpay for Marner in a vaccuum, although Carlsons age does seem like it could be a major factor. Well done on this trade, seems like realistic value, if not a likely scenario.

imo if Carlson was a 90 point 23 year old it would be a 1 for 1 but his age played a major factor in this

I don't think Carlson is replaceable for Washington, and adding another big forward contract probably isn't the best in the long term.

cant really argue with that. Carlson is a massive part of the Washington capitals and their success.

Dubas would piss his pants laughing if this was actually presented.. wouldnt be able to answer due to laughing at how ridiculously bad this is. An aging dman on the downward swing, a 3rd rd draft pick that has done very little (other than be big) and 1st rd pick, likely to be in the 20s, in next years not very deep draft.... how amazingly bad is this?

lol you made a ghost account write such a silly comment. typical. Carlson is on a downward swing? solid take... Protas just had a killer year ("done very litte") and a late 1st?

What in the world?? Do you watch hockey? John Carlson is coming off his best year in the NHL, was the best defenceman this year in the league. Was on pace for 89 points which is absolutely mind-blowing. Carlson is not on a downward swing, in fact nowhere close. A decent prospect as well as a first definitely favours Toronto. I really hope you were kidding

I was also confused by his comment... idk how you score at a 90ish point pace and are on a "downward swing". his account is 24 hours old so I assume hes trolling or banned already for being "intelligent"

yep... makes a lot of sense to trade a 23c year old 90 pts forward for a 30 year old dman thats never played defence, a mediocre prospect with distorted numbers and late 1st rd draft pick.... how asinine a deal is this????

this lunacy is just another example of how homers over value their own and undervalue whats on the other side... theres not GM in the league that would give up Marner for that. Whats next youre going to deal Panik and a couple 1st rd picks for Connor McDavid???

Cough cough homer detected. Carlson is the best offensive defenceman in the NHL & is gonna win the Norris, Protas is an elite prospect & you get a 1st. How isn't this a good deal for Toronto?

I gotta admit, you did a very good job. I think Toronto will need to retain some salary if Washington is going to give up that much. I won't be making a Marner to Washington post for my series, since I think it will be hard to beat yours.

Carlson age eliminates the need to retain salary and that’s why capitals need to add

The Caps #1 problem is D. Your AGM gambles hard on three very young guys actually delivering, two 6/7's potentially playing second pair (Kempny/Jensen), and only two legit NHL D.

Marner adds some long term firepower, but adding an $11M forward probably isn't the direction that the Caps need to go.

Man that's EXACTLY what you were doing earlier in this thread. You heavily undervalued every trade piece from the caps in a poor attempt to demonstrate how terrible the trade is. You literally defined yourself as a homer

Lmfao he said Carlson was in a “downward swing”. He’s the front runner for the Norris. I just ignore people like him bc they are just idiots... I don’t like to encourage them bc it’s like a kink for them.
