3 years @ 4 million will cost more than Ryan Johnson to dump on Detroit.

Why are you paying Reinhart more than Nylander?

Montreal declines. Habs can't trade Domi and Gallagher without first finding homes for Price, Weber and probably Petry. Not sure Geoff Molson has the stomach to start rebuilding again.

its his 3rd contract and buys out more UFA years. cap is also higher than when nylander signed.

i think 7.5 gets us 7 years though, not 6

Not really a cap dump with 2 million retained. He would easily be Detroits best 3rd liner and should be able to count on him for 30 + points. IMO it is a bad idea for the Sabres to move Okposo if they are retaining anything more than 1 million

I wouldn’t call him a positive asset @ 4M when you can get mid tier guys whom perform better this offseason for 4M or less. Nor would it make sense to acquire him to fill a bottom 6 role when we already have overpaid vets to do that and should weaponize our cap for futures. You want to talk about 2021 or 2022 first then I’m all ears. Detroit doesn’t need to take him off your hands with or without retention unless it makes sense for us. Maybe you don’t need to move him now but what about when Dahlin, Jokiharju, etc are due for raises?

No thanks at that cost it would be better for the Sabres to just keep him and then he is just an overpaid bottom 6 player. He still does positive things on the ice and there is not a major concern until after this year about cap space. So if they cannot move the contract next offseason perhaps they buy him out, but more likely we just ride out the 3 years. He doesn't hurt us being the lineup so it isn't essential to free up his cap as of yet.

For Detroit to take on Okposo's contract, you'd have to include 8OA. Anything less is absurd.
3 years at 6 is an ANCHOR.

Agreed that Price would be a tough sell on his full contract, but probably less difficult to sell at $7M or so. As for Weber, there are 30 teams that would want him if Montreal made him available. He was still a Norris Trophy aspirant last year and his real salary is $3M. For any cheapskate owner with a cap-floor team, he'd be a huge catch.
