That would certainly be VERY nice of Ottawa to do that for you, but I doubt they accept.

Why? You're first round pick is gonna be top 5 and you'll get San Jose Shark-ed. Plus Getzlaf is a far better option at center than Athanasiou, go sign someone just as good for as much or less money in UFA

I chose Ottawa because they already have three LTIR contracts in Gaborik, MacArthur, and Callahan. It could be any team willing to take on Kesler's contract

Oilers say no way. They aren't going to lose cap space for a deal unless its for something that will actually improve the team. They most likely move out benning this off season given that theyd want to sign bear long term like they did with klefbom. Then move chiasson for a pick to relieve space until the dead space becomes open and russel's contract expires after next season. also AA is an RFA so at that price EDM get a 1st and 3rd rnd pick

why trade Guddy and silf for a cap dump, two nothings, and a guy who will likely never play hockey again... and AA is one of the worst players in the league. I wouldn't pay a 7th for him at 700k much less a first for him at 5 mil...

Ottawa wouldn't even trade Guénette for a 5th round pick. He's developing quite nicely and, according to Dobber, could be a very serviceable 3rd pairing or possibly even second pairing guy. So the idea of giving him up WHILE taking on $7M in cap for 2 full seasons is just a bad deal.

All four of those trades make absolutely no sense whatsoever for Anaheim. And the AA offer sheet is an even worse idea. Neither Athanasiou nor Kassian is as good as Silfverberg, and exchanging Gudbranson for Forbert is insane, so the net result is awful.

I know silfverberg is a better player than kassian but taking on the pylon is way too much

If Pietrangelo signs for 8M AAV he's a Blue, hell the Blues probably keep him for 9M, it's likely that he want near 10 that he walks, that's what you're looking at

Also in what universe do the cap tight, let Backes walk when he is captain, Blues want David Backes back, especially paying picks to pay 6M a year for him. They wouldn't even want to take picks for him right now because they are not rebuilding with cap room, they especial wouldn't give picks for the Ducks to cap dump.

Like put those 2 thoughts together, you are an elite team, defending cup champs and currently sitting at the top of your conference heading into the playoffs, you could pay your current captain who is a top 5 player at his position, captained you to the first cup in your history exactly what you offered him in November or you could let him walk and spend 3/4 of that much, which you still have to clear cap space for, & trade away two draft picks when you are thin on picks to bring back your previous captain who is a washed up badly overpriced 4th liner when you already have a former 1st lier who is paid too much to be a good defensive 4th line who is already better at playing and costs 250k a year less already on the roster(Steen)

In what universe is that anything but an old video game "allow forced trades" move?
