Spurgeon trade

Created by: deys3232
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2020
Published: Jul. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Decided to run with 11f, 7d

Yes, I know trading a top 10 defenseman in Spurgeon is a really big loss, but it fixes 2 really big holes for the Wild

1 they get a really good top 6 centre
2 they get a competent starter

And they have the cap space to go after either Petro or Krug, if not, they can sign 2 really good defensemen or even a middle 6 forward. Maybe they sign a better goalie and run an elite tandem. Who knows.

Maybe call up Kahkonen if Stalock and Koskinen are struggling

lets get this right.
You want to run 11 forwards, when 2 of them are 36 years old and one of them is 33?

I mean you are really run with what 8-9 forwards there right?
Because I don't see 36 year old players double shifting all season.

I think that's a lot for DeMelo as well. 3.5....I don't think he's anywhere close to 3.5

You still have an electrifing rookie in Kaprisov, Fiala is a high energy guy, Eriksson Ek and Donato are still fairly young. All can split the 7 minutes that 4th liner was gonna play

Well then theres your answer. Either dont sign Demelo or sign him for less and use the rest if the cap space on a 4th liner

I think Wild probably except this deal if everyone was willing to waive clauses. I'd miss Spurgeon but Wild have bigger needs. RNH isn't a ideal number 1 but I think he is good enough with the Wild wings.

Eww no thanks from Edmonton we pass. I don’t want to rich Spurgeons contract when it comes, and we don’t need him plus if you want Nuge you would have to give something else.

This trade would depend on a few things...

What will RNH command for his next contract?
Is JP a legit middle six RW???
How good is Koskinen?

I don't think Guerin will move Spurgeon after he gave him the richest contract in terms of AAV in Wild history last offseason.

I also don't know how much of a center Nuge really is, he played mostly on the wing with Draisaitl this season.

oilers pass, if this was a season ago when the oilers had no defensive depth they could have done that but now it's not worth it for them to do that

He spent most of his career as a centre and switched to wing after Draisaitl broke out

You do realize that Spurgeon has one of the best contracts in the league. Hes a top 10 defeneman and never gets recognized as one

It's my understanding he's primarily been wing the past couple years and if you look at his production in seasons before that they haven't been anything great. Though I could be wrong.

Draisaitl played on the 1st line with Mcdavid last year
Nuge was the 2C

Haha. No he isn’t a top 10 defence man, and his contract isn’t good. 7.5M or whatever it is isn’t good for him at all. He’s decent 2nd pair defence man but that all.

In that case I like him more, but I still don't see Guerin trading Spurgeon in general.

This is so wrong. Spurgeon is worth every penny of his AAV, the problem with his contract is that it's a year or two too long. He's not a top 10 defenseman imo, but very much a top pairing player.

Pretty much every advanced stat points to him being a top 10 defenseman

Spurgeon is considered a elite defenseman by many. Top 10 probably not but just outside of it.
