Maata is an actual option to bring in here and while Chicago won't get a ton he isn't a dump. They won't pay a 1st.

I am happy to acknowledge that this is a steep cost for dumping cap, and my valuation of how much that is worth may well be off. If proven wrong I will hold my hands up as mis-valuing cap space and being overly optimistic, however I would not be surprised if we did see these kinds of deals in the autumn, when the small number of teams willing to accept bad contracts becomes clear.

I mean it's possible VAN goes with Demko as their starter next year, but I'm betting that out of their 3 big UFA's the priority order to sign them goes Markstrom, then Toffoli, then Tanev. Not that they don't like Demko, but Markstrom has been the team's MVP two years in a row and if they stick with him then there's a good chance they move Demko before expansion.

This trade might be the best version of an Eriksson dump that the Canucks can hope for.

If they dump Eriksson then they will definitely sign Markstrom. Attaching Demko might be the best way to do that cause otherwise they will lose him for nothing to Seattle
