Op here.
1) For the record, I don't actually care if the trade occurs with Detroit only or not. The point is to outline the sort of moves I think we need to make.
2) As per The Athletic's article by
James Mirtle without signing any new players other than Soup and Dermot we are above the max cap. Take into account, we won't have any cap space on all our upcoming RFAs and Reilly we need to make moves!
3) Freddy expires next year and I want assets on him unless he's willing to re-sign near $5M again and he has a comeback from a very shaky season. Your smoking if you think at his age we can pay him boat loads on a long term contract even if the cap went to $85M this year. This was a very shaky season.
4) Regarding Bertuzzi, and depending on what happens with Anderson, my plan would be to either sign him to a team friendly deal or trade him or someone comparable in cap hit from the current roster for a starting goalie (perhaps from the NYR).
5) Some of you are right in that Detroit wouldn't accept the deal but this was more about anticipated value for this trade. Here's the breakdown...
Bertuzzi [RFA Rights]
-----For-----
Johnsson
Hronek
2020 2nd round pick (DET)
-----For-----
Dermot
Andersen
2021 2nd round pick (DET)
2020 3rd round pick (DET)
2020 3rd round pick (SJS)
-----For-----
Kerfoot
2021 1st round pick (DET)
2022 1st round pick (DET)
Larkin ($3,000,000 retained; they don't need it for the next 3 years)
-----For-----
Marner
2022 2nd round pick (TOR)
6) HALF THE LEAGUE is in cap trouble, whoever thinks it's just the Leafs is uneducated in league matters.
Finally...
You may now continue your criticism lol
