1) For the record, I don't actually care if the trade occurs with Detroit only or not. The point is to outline the sort of moves I think we need to make.

2) As per The Athletic's article by James Mirtle without signing any new players other than Soup and Dermot we are above the max cap. Take into account, we won't have any cap space on all our upcoming RFAs and Reilly we need to make moves!

3) Freddy expires next year and I want assets on him unless he's willing to re-sign near $5M again and he has a comeback from a very shaky season. Your smoking if you think at his age we can pay him boat loads on a long term contract even if the cap went to $85M this year. This was a very shaky season.

4) Regarding Bertuzzi, and depending on what happens with Anderson, my plan would be to either sign him to a team friendly deal or trade him or someone comparable in cap hit from the current roster for a starting goalie (perhaps from the NYR).

5) Some of you are right in that Detroit wouldn't accept the deal but this was more about anticipated value for this trade. Here's the breakdown...

Bertuzzi [RFA Rights]
-----For-----
Johnsson

Hronek
2020 2nd round pick (DET)
-----For-----
Dermot
Andersen

2021 2nd round pick (DET)
2020 3rd round pick (DET)
2020 3rd round pick (SJS)
-----For-----
Kerfoot

2021 1st round pick (DET)
2022 1st round pick (DET)
Larkin ($3,000,000 retained; they don't need it for the next 3 years)
-----For-----
Marner
2022 2nd round pick (TOR)

6) HALF THE LEAGUE is in cap trouble, whoever thinks it's just the Leafs is uneducated in league matters.

Finally...
You may now continue your criticism lol

No-one thinks it's just the leafs. But as it is not just the leafs the few teams with cap space can afford to walk away from laughable offers in favour of ones that don't torpedo their futures.

laugh laugh Bertuzzi has more value then Johnsson, And you're totally delusional if you think that an aging Andersen and Dermott and a 2nd are worth Hronek that's a trash offer and no freaking way is Kerfoot worth a 2nd and 2 3rds and we sure as hell aren't retaining $3 million on Larkin while eating all of Marners contract. Like i said dude it's total trash for Detroit and only sets us back.

Ignoring the trade garbage for a second, let’s look at Barrie for SEVEN MIL. Congratulations, Toronto. You’ve ruined your cap situation. Oh, wait? You made this super extremely garbage trade that has you dump 3/4 of your quality players? Oh okay, then you’re cap is fine

Don't worry, I will.

Johnsson is worth a 3rd. Bertuzzi is worth more than a first.

An expiring 30 year old goalie and a fringe top 4 for a top 4 D improving every year still on his elc. They say f*ck no

You'd be lucky to get just the 2nd rounder for Kerfoot.

Sadly, the Larkin one makes the most sense of all, but still, lets say a retained Larkin for 3 years is worth 2 firsts. Worth more, but lets just say for arguments sake. Is Marner worth 4 firsts? I wouldn't pay that much for him as an opposing team. Maybe if he was still on elc or something, but even at that 4 firsts for any winger not named Kucherov, Pastrnak, prime Kane, or prime Oveckhkin today is probably not worth it

Bertuzzi >> Johnsson
Hronek + 2 (32 OV) > Dermott + Anderson (1 year)
2+3+3 > Kerfoot
Larkin (50%) + 1 + 1 >> Marner + 2

Those Detroit picks are literally still going to be top 5 of each round since Kerfoot is now the 1C of the team. This is bad for both teams but makes absolutely no sense for Detroit and they get worse value.

This scenario is....

1. Unrealistic.
2. Nothing that either team would ever consider in order to make their franchise better in the long run.
3. A complete deviation from a chosen path on both sides.
4. A worse team than that with which they started from a Leafs perspective.

I don't like any of this at all.

Hard no from me.
