Sure. They should definitely try to sign him to a long term contract in the off season...

They shouldn't have traded him either way. They should've signed him to an extension and let Crawford go. Zero chance Lehner signs with the hawks in the offseason. Bowman burned that bridge

Yes I was surprised they traded him for so little considering they don't have anyone to replace him. Trading Crawford would have made more sense.

But you still have a chance at 1st overall, And that’s something you can build on for a Stanley Cup. Team isn’t in shape for a playoff run which is why to take every chance you got.

I actually have to agree. If Bowman was hoping to build the future of the team and thought they had a shot at the playoffs he would have extended Lehner. Instead he sold him for a goaltender who had a mediocre season. He probably planned on tanking a bit in hopes of the smallest possibility of getting close to the first overall pick.

Chicago has had a better hand on Edmonton on this season and can win if they want, keep in mind how rested their stanley cup contending players are while Edmonton will run inexperience on the front. We're talking Kubalik-Toews-DeBrincat against a line only held by McDavid, then Saad-Strome-Kane against Dr. Drai who has the better hand, then Nylander-Dach-Kampf against a very poor bottom 6 of the Oilers. Then Keith-Boqvist and Murphy pairing on the Top 4
