Description

From all the teams that miss the tournament, Buffalo is the one who needs to make the most changes in order to be competitve next season. It's been 9 years that this team didn't make the playoffs. Their fans are asking for change and captain and their franchise player are frustated with the situation. At least they have many spots open as they got plenty of player that will go to free agency. I'll try to make the moves if I was Buffalo GM.

First with the draft. On my previous draft Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Rossi, Drysdale, Raymond and Holtz were already taken. Buffalo could go two ways. If the go for the best player available they'll go with Perfetti. If they go with the player who could fill a position the go with Sanderson to play on the second pair. My guess is they'll take the best player and go with Perfetti.

Next sign the rfa. It's a lock Reinhart and Olofsson are backs are will get a significant raise of their previous salary. Both are young enough and are part of Buffalo future. Ullmark is the goalie of the present so he'll get awarded too but they got Luukonnen for the future.

Trades:
With so many roster spots open, but I don't think Buffalo is a #1 destination for the ufa they'll need to trade player for important role. The first one would be with Arizona. I like this trade for both team. Buffalo gets their #2 center. Cozens starts as the third so they don't make the same mistake like why Mittelstadl to gave him on a silver plate a top 6 role. Plus Stepan is known for being a leader and a good team player with Buffalo really needs. For Arizona it's a cap clear in order to try to sign Hall. Then it's two players and struggled with their teams and could use a change os scenary. Both are very young and have top 6 potential but Puljujarvi as a better upside. For Montour if picked up Winnipeg as they could use help on defense but it can be any team. Buffalo has too much rhd they need trade one.

For the ufa I won't sign any big name, since it will cost more as I said before. A guy like Clifford could be a good option. A grinder type with caracter is what Buffalo needs. Also I wouldn't mind try to sign a guy like Edmundsson to play on the second pair.

This team is not perfect but at least I think is one who could compete during the entire season.

Stepan has been quite bad for AZ the last few years, not just in points but also in xG. Teams are not going to give up assets for him and that cap hit....

The Oilers are desperate to get rid of Puljujarvi at this point. Mittelstadt has a much higher ceiling as of right now. If anything, make the pick higher.

I don't think that buffalo should have to give up a 2nd for 6.5 million of stepan.

either a 2nd with 2.5 million retained, or 5th with no retention.

tage thompson is not and has never been a center.

edmundson is a contract that is regrettable immediately.

Desperate?? Not really, he can play in Finland all he wants. We aren’t desperate to move him, we would just like to get a good return.

I wouldn't say desperate. Do they want to trade yes but I think they can afford to keep him until his rights end

they have his rights until he's 27 so they have it for five more years. He's probably gonna get traded this offseason

Hutton goes blind and has 0-8-4 stretch,
The PK and PP are the worse in the league,
Skinner scores 14 goals,
Sheary, Vesey and Rodrigues have career bad years.
If ANY one of those did not happen, the team is in the preliminaries,
If NONE of them happen they are chasing the Leafs for the third overall spot.
One also has to ask, what coach thinks it is a good idea to put Sobotka on the 2nd line? Did anyone consider how much that contributed to Skinner's awful year.
Let me add, only 8 teams gave up fewer 5 on 5 goals than the Sabres last year. With better GK it would have been even fewer teams.
So I cannot disagree with your opening line more than I do.

As to the trades:
Stepan is paid more then Okposo why do I want two of them on my team and for a 2nd? @NeedTheCleanser and @littlejerryseinfeld are correct.
I would rather keep Mittelstadt over Puljujarvi. Casey took the demotion while Jesse jumped to Europe. Give me the player with class.
Montour is worth a lot more than the 43rd OA. He had the best +/- among all Sabre skaters, only Scandella had a better PDO, only Ristolainen and Dahlin had a higher pts/min, Miller, Ristolainen and Dahlin all had more PP time than he, he had the highest 5 on 5 SV% of all Sabre defensemen, do I need to go on?

They are desperate to get rid of him before they lose his rights. Better to trade him now when he is young and worth more.

Ok so guys if Stepan is a bad option who should Buffalo target to be their #2 center while Cozens gets the third line. I've seen the option of Johansen couple of months ago but I think their too much terms and his cap hit is too high. Do they go in a alternance of Mittelstadl and Cozens?
