Sabres pass on this deal. We are not in need of depth forwards we are looking for top 6 help. Maatta contract is too high for the player he is and Caggiula is no upgrade over Mitts. We would rather hang on to him and see if he bounces back towards his ceiling as a player because his floor is the player that Caggiula is.

Caggs is better than Mitts right now, but I get what you're saying

This is going to be a no from me. I don't think we're going to trade the 11th OA for Strome.

I do think that MIN trade is indeed interesting. I'd probably do it to be perfectly honest. I'd probably draft Lundell and Askarov because true centermen are harder to find and I do believe that Lundell will be a really good centerman. Just a tough draft year for him.

Can't think of a realistic scenario where Guerin would trade their 1st rounder, period.

I would love to hear a decent counter offer from a wild fan for strome. It seems to me that wild fans want strome but won't give their 1st or Brodin for him. Hawks won't do it for the pens 1st unless you add more and we for sure won't trade him for a 2nd

There points per 82 are nearly identical 28 for Mitts 27 for Drake. Both struggle defensively and Casey is 5 years younger where it should be expected his production will go up at least slightly. Doesn't mean he is a bad player just he is worth a mid round draft pick or a lower level prospect probably to a contending team trying to round out their bottom 6 for a cup run.

Not that every fan needs to agree with their own fan base... I'm 99.9% sure this idea came from a MIN fan.

I honestly can't either. Even when trading for a 1C I can't see it. We're caught in what I call a competitive purgatory. We're close to both a rebuild and a competitive postseason team. It all comes down to how long Parise and Suter can stay competitive at their ages. We need them to be competitive because of how much cap they take up. Say we trade the 11th OA and we regress...then we're just stuck in that purgatory longer. It's going to sound weird but we need build for the future...while also trying to win now....if that makes any sense.

Guerin has made it clear he's after a right handed center, so I doubt Dylan Strome is on his list of potential trade targets. If he can't trade for one, he'll use his 1st round picks to draft one and just be patient.

I've seen a lot of Brodin for Strome and a 3rd. That works for me. That 1st rounder is just off limits for me. For explanation, see above.

It does, which if you don't apply any thought beyond he's 23 and plays center makes Strome the "perfect" target. The problem is he's not a 1C, he's left handed, and much like his brother Ryan, he's been propped up by the quality of his wingers. If either were available cheap enough, sure they're worth rolling the dice on. A 1st round pick is too much for that chance.

The Wild would deeply regret that trade. Brodin does so much for their defense, which along with Fiala deciding to toggle the other team's defense down to easy mode for a stretch last year, is the only thing duct taping this team together. Guerin has to be 100% sure the return for Brodin is enough of an upgrade that the gain on offense makes up for the drop in defense. If Strome was, why would he be available? Pretty much every Cup contender is at least 3 centers deep.

We agree on Brodin's value on the team. I personally just love watching him play for everything you said above. We disagree, however, on this trade. My ideal scenario is to keep Brodin at all costs...but if you're Guerin and you're unsure if Brodin will sign an extension, doesn't it make sense to trade Brodin? Strome's definitely not my target if I'm trading Brodin, because we need a right shot center over anything else. But if this is the best offer we get for him...doesn't it make sense?

If there are absolutely no better offers on the table and Brodin has said he's going to test the waters of free agency, sure. But if he says that, Chicago isn't giving up a young player under team control for years for a rental guy they're no more certain to extend than Minnesota would be so that's sort of a moot point to bring up.

Actually that is a very valid point. I never thought about it like that from Chicago's side. I don't see Brodin not wanting to extend in Minnesota and doing an extension in Chicago via sign and trade instead.

The main issue is Chicago isn't in a much different place than the Wild right now, so he'd be going from 1 bubble team to another. I could see Brodin saying he'd consider a sign and trade to a contender being more of a conversation starter for the Wild being forced to trade him.

That's because he's just that valuable a player in our minds. It's just a classic case of homer fans overvaluing their players. I don't really want to trade Brodin, but I realize that we might have to before we lose him for nothing.

Yeah after you said that about Chicago I thought about how they would only trade for him if an extension was in place. Which obviously we'd just keep him if that was the case. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any contenders who'd be willing to part with a young 1C for Brodin...things just got more complicated lol.

I like the idea @TanSor came up with with LA having the #2 pick and likely getting a stud center prospect, which is a deal with LA with the 2 main pieces being Brodin going to LA for Vilardi. Not sure what else would need to be involved, but LA could find a way to get 1 more run out of Doughty and Kopitar if they made a couple moves.

I would be okay with that trade. He seems to be a stud in the making. I think that's our best option if LA accepts. Then hope Khovanov and Vilardi develop quickly so we have a 1-2-3 punch of Vilardi, Khovanov, and Ekker.

Bad move for Buffalo

I would hate to give up Mittelstadt as I have posted many times, he is not a bust.
If that was the only trade Buffalo made it would not make any sense.
Määttä was one of the Hawks PK defensemen.
Drake would obviously be a bottom 6 forward and would take the place of Girgensons.
It this was one of 2 other trades, I think it would be OK.
I use this as my test team: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1750467
The defense is balanced and solid, LW is strong to the 3rd line, the center position is deep as Lazar or Kahun could cover for injuries. RW is strong to the 3rd line, only one of Cozens or Thompson needs to be NHL ready and the team will be in the hunt until the end of March.
Of course all three trades would need to be consummated or it does not work.
Please, I am looking for feedback.
