Description
I personally think we should keep DeAngelo, but if we were to trade him, I like this idea. Esa Lindell is a solid defensive defenseman who can contribute offensively also. The Rangers need defensive help and the Stars could use more offensive production, which is my reasoning behind this deal.

Probably a no from Dallas.

And I am not sure if the Wild would pay a 2nd.

Nice job. I have no complaints on trades. But (a) do you want chytil at 2C? and (b) Buchnevich is underpaid significantly

I think Strome had some good seasons, but also some bad ones.

On the other hand, I prefer Lindell who has been very consistent over the years, while DeAngelo had one very good season. Also, having players without contracts is a risk.

Dallas would have to add IMO, but I actually love the general idea of the trade. Don’t see them adding a 1st or a top prospect, but I something like a 2nd + Albin Eriksson/Oskar Back/Nick Caamano would help flush out the deal for the Rangers. All 3 of those prospects have a middle-6 ceiling

I personally am huge on Chytil and I think that he may be ready for the 2C role. Also, I didn't make that Buch deal; he signed it last offseason.

For the Wild, the thing holding them back the most is their goaltending so a solid guy in Georgiev will cost at the very least a 2nd +. I would be demanding a first if I was Jeff Gorton but I think this price is really reasonable for Minnesota. As for the Dallas trade, how come you think they would decline?

I also thought we (NYR) might be losing a little in this trade but was uncertain about Lindell's value which is why I sold short. I think a mid range winger prospect could seal the deal.

Yes, but neither are UFA’s meaning Dallas would still retain their rights. Neither DeAngelo nor Strome have indicated at all that they are willing to sit out, or play overseas so I don’t worry about a contract getting done here.

And yes, Lindell is fine defensively, but Dallas has an abundance of LD and are extremely thin at RD, especially in that 2RD spot behind Klingberg. Trading Lindell leaves you with Heiskanen, Oleksiak, Bayreuther, Heatherington, and high-end prospect Thomas Harley to flush out the NHL roster.

Dallas would run with something like this and look BETTER on the blue line than they did this season:

Heiskanen-Klingberg
Harley-DeAngelo
Oleksiak-Johns

I’ll make an ACGM from a Dallas perspective shortly. I’ll credit you for the trade, but I just want to flush out the cap and see what that would leave the Stars with. Solid job overall.

Also, can you confirm that Lindell is actually good defensively? The whole reasoning behind the trade is for Dallas to get offense and New York to get defense.

I can tell you that Lindell is a stud defensively. Great read and positionning. He is not a great puck mover but can still get out of the zone with the black thing once in a while. Limited offensive upside but he can generate close to 30 points on a regular basis.

He is very very very good on the PK and plays all the tough minutes.
