Description

Canucks are at risk of losing Demko in the expansion draft, so sending him to an out of conference opponent now is better than scrambling next offseason. Pickard comes back so the Canucks still have a goalie the can expose in the ED

Added a spare part to the trade. McDonough is a good prospect but he’s redundant in the Canucks system. Podkolzin, Hollander, Lind, lockwood, MackEwan are all ahead of him on the depth chart. Figured Detroit probably would take all the pieces they can get for the rebuild

I think Detroit goes for the draft pick(s). They will get the option to select based on the traits that they value the most, which they don't with taking someone else's guy.

Plus I think the Canucks are pretty high on McDonough after that type of production as a freshman. My guess is they wouldn't even offer him and just go with a pick.
