SJ should reject IMO there's just too much risk in Jost

I've brought up my objections to the Kings giving up a 2nd+ for Zadorov multiple times. I renew those objections here.

why? He'd be signed to a pretty affordable contract and he's been pretty consistent over the last 3 seasons.

Risk in what? His floor is clearly established, a 3rd line player who is good defensively, Forechecks, good zone entries and supports his lines offense.

You know at a minimum what he is, but there is still potential to be more

I like that Jost trade, but maybe there should be some conditions added? I wouldn't mind just doing that straight up, but it would be great to ensure we wouldn't completely lose out if his ceiling ends up being around how he's playing now.

A good 3C is worth 2 2nd rd picks, you’re giving up 2 picks in the 55-65 ranges who’ll probably never play in the NHL. If you think you can get a guy with solid potential to be a 2C it will cost more than 2 2nd rd picks

are you looking at his faceoffs? Bc he didnt play much C last year at all, he played Wing with Compher at C

And he does not suck (if you mean his face off % that is a very skewed number based on the lack of draws). There are a lot of solid parts to his game that makes him a very reliable and trust worthy 3rd line player

Isn't a 2nd + 3rd a reasonable price to pay for a 22 year old cost-controlled and defensively responsible 3C?

Maybe for someone, but Jost isnt really a good center at this point in his career. His faceoffs are brutal brutal, and 28 point pace on one of the best teams in the league is not impressive, also hes up for a new contract this summer and it wont be under 2 mil so not cost controlled

2 years at 2M is good, anyway Simek is probably worth 2 1st rd pick for you

Uh no, hes probably worth like a third, im not unreasonable, I just like to do moves that make sense for the sharks.

No it just doesnt make sense, if you trade for Jost your banking on his upside and its a very risky move. The sharks are a team who if they are gonna win need to do it now, paying the same price for a for sure 50 points is a better move than risking it right now. I dont hate Jost, but the price is too high for the player. I feel the same about Poolparty or Lias Andersson

50 points player is 1st rd pick ++ lol now you’re buying low on Jost with that offer

Jost's comparables are Sam Bennett ($1.95m x 2 years, then $2.55m x 2 years) and Lawson Crouse ($1.53 x 3 years). Salary estimating tools put his next contract at $2.1m x 2-3 years. It wouldn't surprise me to see Jost resign at closer to $1.5m than $2m due to the flat cap and his likely desire to want to stay in Colorado. Whatever the case, even if Jost doesn't develop beyond being a 3rd liner his contract will still be really good value given that most solid 3rd liners these days cost $3m+.

For what it's worth I also think you're confusing "cost-controlled" and "cheap". You can argue that $2m for Jost isn't "cheap", but it's a fact that he's "cost-controlled" by virtue of being an RFA for another 4 years. Colorado have all the leverage in his situation.

As for the faceoffs, yes he's pretty bad at them, but judging a players ability solely on his ability to take faceoffs is really small-sighted given how small a factor faceoffs actually are overall.

I only brought it up because people keep trying to sell him as a future center and thats just not how he plays
