Pettersson could realistically command as much as 11M on an 8 year deal.

Good luck with the Hughes and Pettersson signings next years, Because honestly for both players minimally you're looking at $20 million combined.

I am not sure yet about Hughes, as he did not play much so far.

But for Pettersson, 10m should not do it. Looking at what Marner got in Toronto. Of course the flat cap will have an influence, but I think Pettersson is worth more than Marner

Maybe so but Dubas is kinda soft when negotiating his contracts, Pettersson may get more but I think his and Hughes's contracts will add up to 20mil so you can split that however you want

this is the 20/21 off season so it would be 3 million for 1 more season 21/22

Pettersson's contract is really going to depend on the 20/21 season... his first 2 seasons are on pace to compare to Marner, but Marner had 94 point in his contract year though which got him PAYED! also yea i feel like Dubas is a little soft on negotiations. however pettersson is eligible for offers-heets whereas Hughes is not. so i think Pettersson gets the max 8 years for 9-11 million, Hughes they might try something like 6 million over 3 years or 7 million over 5... a bridge of sorts so that he does not expire the same year as Pettersson for extensions

2 years sorry. He is signed through 21 - 22 season. I forgot that this year is not technically completed yet. The unfortunate nature of being a Sabres fan when you see 3 years listed remaining you assume the first year of that is next year

He is signed for 2 more years but this trade is done during the 2021-22 offseason so it's only for one year

Got it. Sabres would still need to pass they will be up against the cap next year with Dahlin and Jokiharju to sign so they cannot afford to take cap dumps beyond this year

I agree, but Pettersson means more to the Canucks than Marner to the Leafs. He is a centre and he is their face of the franchise. Also, his contribution to Vancouvers success is much bigger

Fair enough it doesn't have to be to the sabers literally any team that's at the cap floor would work
