man we get ripped off in that Canucks trade. Make one of the fourths vanish and put the other on Baertschi’s side

Changed it to just 1x 4th rounder, how's that?

Since we got rid of Cousins, Thompson, and Varone, and we need forward depth, maybe a fifth.

I really like Sven Bärtschi and I think he could play in the lineup where you placed him, but I think that Vancouver would actually give you a pick to take his contract (not a terrible contract and only one year left, but Vancouver needs cap space)

As much as I wouldn't want to see TB get bailed out with a trade like this I would love to see Montreal get saddled with another contract like Mcdonaughs

The masses take it, seems like consensus is Vancouver pays, so I've updated!

That's an easy no to Mcdonaugh. Good player but 6 more years at 6.25 is to much to be paying someone who is out of thier prime and wint be worth the money moving forward

What's Weber have to do with it?

Great, he played on the highest scoring team in the league and was able to outlet pass to Stamkos and Kucherov all year, you or me could put up 25 points on that team, doesnt mean he will be a 40+ point dman for the rest of his 30s in MTL.

Dont get me wrong, I think the value is right but with a flat cap and expansion draft coming up, I wouldn't be giving up assets for a 31 year old dman signed until he is 37 and making that high of a cap hit. Just doesnt make sense for the Habs.

Maybe we don't agree on the value of the assets? Bottom 6 small forward capped out at 30 pts, 3rd pairing D and a 2nd
I can't think of a trade that makes more sense for MTL who has a gapping hole at LHD and lots of cap to play with
6.75 mil for a guy who will be top 4 D caliber for 5 out of the 6 next season is not unreasonable...

I dont think the value is wrong, at all. I just don't think MTL should be spending that much cap on him right now. If the cap was increasing this year and the year after I think they do this deal, but flat cap changes everything. The way teams prioritize thier cap space this season and next could throw some team from the bottom to the top and from the top to bottom. The NHL may get more parody out of this situation then ever before and I dont think that taking on Mcdonagh for that long, at that cap hit is a good idea for a youthful team that needs to rise. Especially with 18 million already tied up in 2 players that are the over 30 leaders.
