Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For all the fun I have on AGM, I honestly don't believe the Leafs will make any major deals. They will probably move out some salary to accommodate younger RFA's that need raises. To me, the LA deal helps both teams. LA gets 2 very capable, offensive middle 6 forwards without giving up much. And Toronto gets rid of some cap and replace Kerfoot on the 3rd line with a younger, albeit smaller, player with some speed, solid motor, skill and 2-way ability. Understanding Lizotte is younger than both players they are acquiring, Johnsson and Kerfoot could be much more useful to them going forward.

The Leafs D will not get a major upgrade, IMO, if at all. They will be forced to be effective as a unit. There is no easy fix with this group. Sandin, Lehtonen and Lilly must step up next year. Barabanov will most likely start bottom 6 and work his way into the top 6 through injury or lack of production above him.

Trades
TOR
  1. Lizotte, Blake
  2. 2020 4th round pick (LAK)
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Young, small, speedy, bottom 6 center with great motor. A bit on the small side, but would fit in with how the 3rd line is structured. LA gives up a couple of middle round picks to even value out. Overall, I think this deal benefits both sides.
LAK
  1. Johnsson, Andreas
  2. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
2 25yo forwards most effective on the 2nd or 3rd lines and provide good offensive support. Young enough that they will be around for the rebuild/retool and are signed to team friendly contracts. Both are capable of 15-20 goals and 40 points on a regular basis.

that is not enough from a Leafs perspective.

Also, I don't think Robertson will make the Leafs next year. Best for him would be a year in europe, as he can't play in the AHL and the Swedish, Finnish and Swiss league are much better than the OHL. I think he would make the Leafs the season after.

Marco Rossi will probably play in Zürich next season, should he not make it to the NHL as a rookie (this is what I heard, He will also practice with Zürich in August, but will not play games before the draft), but with the agreement the Swiss League has from this season forward, swiss teams can sign an extra foreign player if a player with a contract leaves for the NHL, as Pius Suter does).

But there are also more teams in Europe. But I think it would be in his best interest to play in europe.

I think your asking Kings to take on too much cap here and not enough back to Leafs, what about Kerfoot for Lizotte and 3rd or 4th?

The Kings won't go for this. Right now they value their draft picks more than overpaid middle-six forwards that they'll have to protect in the expansion draft.

Haha I have heard that as well. I feel like more and more top end junior players will start doing that. I was just making a joke that is specifically has to be Zurich (see: Auston Matthews) lol.

I think there are not many Auston Matthews that can play real minutes at 17 before being drafted, but at least after they were drafted. Also, in europe they earn money, while they don't earn anything playing in the CHL

Neither Kerfoot nor Johnsson are overpaid. Both are 40pt players, outside of a weird year last season. Kerf couldn't find a fit under Keefe and may need a change of scenery. Johnsson was solid until he got injured. If your opinion is that's too much cap going back to the Kings, then that's fair, but they are far from overpaid. Kerfoot to LA for Lizotte and Leafs 3rd would make sense to me and Johnsson for draft picks somewhere else could be done instead.

Yes it was definitely a stretch, I just really hope he does. He seems like someone that would be able to handle the daily grind of the NHL. I don't believe he will need that much more seasoning. But if he doesn't make it out of camp, Barabanov could easily slot in and there are more than enough 4th line pluggers in the system.

Both are 40 point players for the Leafs, which translates to 25 point players for the Kings. The Kings have better options in the system for cheaper.

The Kings aren't going to trade you back that 3rd round pick, or otherwise give you any more incentive to re-sign Clifford. I'm sure they'd love for you to pass on him so the Kings can re-sign him themselves.
