Sergachev is worth caufield and maybe a late seco d round pick. Caufield is a top 5 nhl prospect in almost every insiders and specialist list. Adding to the fact that you send Montreal a terrible contract is value just drop. Sergachev with Gourde in a deal without taking back some salary will lower is value in a major way. Sergachev would be worth more if he is traded alone. Tampa send a promising young Drouin for a very high talented Prospect in Sergachev. So here the situation is similar in a promising Sergachev and a very high talented prospect.

I wouldn't do the trade plain and simple.
Gourde contract's yikes and sending you another ELC for someone about to get paid would just ease the way for one of our divisional rival.

As a Habs fan I definitely would like sergachev back.
It like another poster commented, we'll just offer sheet him for less.
The trade proposed addresses one of Montreal needs (top pairing LD) but sets us back considerably in the other (top 6 scoring wingers). Tatar and Gally are the only two Montreal has ATM who've shown consistency......adding in caufield sets Montreal back on their second need years.

I dont think COL could fit under the cap after taking Tatar and Palat without making a bunch of other moves. Maybe they take one of them but not both

Oh ok. You only need to take one then. I'm just getting rid of both because that is needed here.

I wouldn't say Gourde's contract has negative value. I'd say he's worth about Luchuk in this trade. Goodrow+ a 3rd got a first. He is probably worth a second. Tatar is worth a first I think. So that leaves Caufield for Sergachev, and Sergachev is worth more. So ok, the habs might want a bit more. But this is about what I think Tamps will want back. You'll have to play hardball.

Montreal have absolutely no need to play hard ball. They have plenty of money to and all their pick to make a offesheet that Tampa won’t be able to match. Anything north of 6 millions will be very hard for them to match so Montreal doesn’t have to acquire that garbage contract in Gourde and Goodrow doesn’t have any value for Montreal, in fact goodrow was trade for pick swap san jose gets a late first 25th-31st and tampa get the 65 pick in the draft that doesnt make him worth a second round pick. Tampa acquire him for is cheap contract and that he was under contract for another season. So goodrow alone isn’t worth a second round pick since Tampa give a late first for a very early third round pick.

Tampa doesn't have the leverage here, Caufield is not going anywhere. All team with cap are going to vulture all of Tampa's RFA - JB will have to make some hard choices - especially when you have about a week to decide if you match or not. While most team around the league won't have a lot of cap space to take on TBL's cap dumps. And the team that do have the money... will be the ones offersheeting your player

No one is going to do any favors to a cup contender bulling the Atlantic division

Ok, fine, you can offer sheet him. And you should know it is not an early third tampa gets. That's what I though too at first. But San Jose gave up their 3rd in the Nyquist trade so they had to give Tamps Phillies pick. He is worth a second. A late second maybe. But still a second.

Goodrow is not worth a second alone. Tampa swap pick giving up 50 spot in the draft. So a second round pick eading one way would need a fourth or a late third round pick to equal value here.

Moving from a third to a first is worth a high second. The amount Goodrow has already played in with the bolts would lower it to a low second. But still a second. Of course, maybe he won't get a second because Tampa overpaid big time. But going off what he was traded for, that is what his value would be. If it makes you feel better, I'll fix it, by switching Goodrow to Coleman.

On second thought, I made the trade strait up Caufield for Serg.

I think that's getting close, but I see 2 problems for MTL: it would create a logjam on defense and deplete an already weak RW prospect pool. If MTL drafts one of Lafrenière/Holtz/Quinn and find a trade partner for one of their top4 D, then maybe.
