Krug Walks and trying to extend the cores window

Created by: ngikas
Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think the Brodin trade is a little short on BOS behalf. The devils trade is definitely more complicated, dumping Moore might cost more than throwing in Senyshyn. I figured Vaak and a 1st for KP would get the job done with no cap dump. The bruins give up a lot of assets including their top two prospects but they also extend the window if the core and they build a solid foundation once Krejci, Bergy, Tuukka are done. Things definitely get a little sketchy up the middle but I think Bergeron has 3-4 years left as a true 1C giving Beecher or another prospect time to develop. It’s definitely an all in type of approach but with a hint of future involved as well. Open to discussing counters and things that the Bruins may need to add to get the deals done.

The Brodin trade is not going to happen. He is better than Dumba, so I am sure the Wild would only trade him if they are too far apart for a new contract.

I just don’t think there’s a realistic scenario where the bruins move studnicka.

Fair enough, wasn’t sure if Brodin would’ve been available for a center prospect. Idk If studnicka is the center that the wild are looking for either

Yeah I think you’re right but I just wanted to gage what maybe a trade involving studnicka could look like.

That's a heavy contract to have Gryzlyck playing 3rd pair on

On the minny trade what would have to be added? A 2nd round pick or a B prospect? In terms of the NJD trade, Moore would be more of a cap dump as without moving him the trade wouldn’t be possible cap wise so I figure that the Bs would have to over pay in some capacity

Devils are getting two 1st round picks and a NHL prospect. No way is that an overpay for Palmieri.

He’s worth it. Having a blue line that good is how a team like the bruins is consistently good. He likely sees a lot of first pair time in situations where Chara isn’t the ideal player for the task.

RL though:
Bruins dont need more defense, so Brodin is worthless to them, and we like Bjork over greenway anyway so its just a really worthless trade for the bruins
Palmeri was fetching less last year, and still didnt get traded, so this is a huge overpayment.

So Krug walks and you trade your best D prospect. How does that make any sense?

marks stone got less, stone and palmieri arent even close, palmieri isnt worth that, hes never reached 60 points, good player but not worth that much, being a good player on a bad team has probbaly boosted his value more than it should

With chara retiring soon and Krug potentially walking I think it’s safe to say that we very well could use some defense. Grizz is a great player but I don’t see him suited well for a full time role on the top pair, I could be wrong but I just don’t see it. With lauzon and Vaak looking like grizz type ceiling it isn’t too far fetched to say the bruins go out and look for a LHD1 replacement. It could be via free agency, but if it were to be via trade Stud or Vaak is the guy every team would ask for. Greenway and Bjork are essentially the same player in my eyes, one just brings more toughness. Plus I always thought greenway would be a great fit in BOS. For the KP deal, I wasn’t sure how much the bruins would have to pay to include Moore. I figured that Vaak and a 1st would get it done with out Moore so I added in senyshyn to take Moore’s contract.

Moore isnt a cap dump despite what Anti-bruins fans will try to tell you so lets just clear that up right off the bat lol

But the rest is all fair

Again. Bjork is a very physical player so i guess thats the point there, hes pretty much a cheaper greenway that likes boston
Sure, maybe a 1LHD is good, but Brodin isnt that. idk who it would be, but I wouldnt count out Urho because his cap is definitely higher than Griz (though maybe not by much)

Well you have to ask yourself does Vaak become a better player than Brodin? Obviously that’s a tough question to answer but with the Bruins being in a win now situation they essentially replace Vaak with the NHL ready top 4 dman in Brodin. A future dcore of Brodin/mcavoy/Carlo/grizz/lauzon/Clifton is better than grizz/mcavoy/Carlo/lauzon/Vaak/Clifton no? I like Vaak and Its going to be tough to move on from both stud and Vaak but it puts the bruins in a good position to remain a contender for the next 4 years. This is all speculative based off the fact that krug walks. If krug stays then there’s really no reason to move Vaak as they don’t need an immediate replacement

I know Moore isn’t a true cap dump but in this scenario he becomes one, as without his contract being moved the trade isn’t possible. Because of that he becomes more of a true cap dump imo

That makes sense, but if thats the case, bruins just dont make the trade. ORRRR they trade him somewhere for a 7th, free up space, and then make the Palmeri deal
But in no situation do they put themselves in the position where Moore needs to be dumped.

Swap Chara and Grzelcyk* in the lines, you'll feel better; essentially, Chara's >$2M cap hit makes it up for Grzelcyk's one

And he is a top4 D, normal he gets that money.

My scenario here is definitely a more unorthodox approach and one that I really couldn’t see Sweeney even going thru with but on paper I do really love the looks of this team

Vaak would have played most of last season and all of this season in the NHL. If he was on Detroit this season he would be the in top 4 from day 1 and be in the top pair by the end of season. Trading Vaak would be a mistake.
